My accident happened less than a mile from my house.

I'm currently in the process of replacing most of my gear, pants are on the list, although I'm not sure I'll use them for commuting.

How do you know what that persons ride entails? I ride Angeles Crest Highway every weekend. In doing so, I have to ride through Pasadena in full leathers. To a casual observer, it looks like I'm suited up in the middle of town for no reason, but unbenounced to them, I will be in the twisties in 15 minutes. And occasionally I will stop by a cafe for a quick cup of coffee in the morning.

If your not following the rider from their house all day long, don't assume they are just putting around town. Seeing as we ride Ducati's a lot of people would be going from their homes to the canyons. They are, after all, sport bikes.

And mind you own business while your at it - this kind of stigma that is attached to wearing gear is the reason why a lot of people don't wear it.  [bang]

First of all, chill out Dude! I never mentioned anything about other people nor did I make assumptions about their ride. The main point of my post was to discuss opinions. My comments were in response to the "Full leathers, all the time!" remarks. I just can't see sweating to death to putt down to the local cafe or to Rhodeside for that matter Statler.

As I stated previously, I have full leathers and a ton of other safety gear. I never ride without some sort of jacket, riding boots, gloves, and helmet. I rarely ride with leather pants though. That's all I'm saying. Now, for those of you (typical of forums) who like to jump to conclusions and get on your soap box, don't preach to me about how you think I'm trying to speak negatively about safety and/or gear. I was simply asking a question. That's great if you wear leathers all the time! I can't stand the squids who ride around in flip flops, shorts, and a t-shirt.  It is my preference not to wear leather pants unless I'm actually going on a ride.

everyone can make their own choices,
but i think the point most are trying to make is,
riding through town is just as dangerous as tearing up the twisties.

snip..... but really, wearing leather pants in the summer just to go to the cafe? C'mon. ...snip

of course you were talking about other people...how is your comment above not  doing just that? ...your thread even started with how come so many Duc riders where so much gear...  how could you not expect the full gear crowd to get their feathers ruffled?       The AGATT crowd is a very sensitive type of bird.   it's my thin skin that the leather protects after all.    ;)

I will say so far everyone has been very nice to folks who have gone down so far on the forum.  Not one I told you so yet for jeans that disintegrated.  which is the way it should be...we're all adults.

true. but this is really a discussion about riders wearing full protective gear or not. it's not leather, but the aerostitch riders are still fully geared.

Personally...

I dress for the crash...

not the ride...because I do crash...not often, but often enough to have that mentality.

If I don't feel like wearing gear...

I take the cage.

The op spoke mainly about leather. Which brings me to a thought. Do you think pro racers wear full leathers when they go for a ride? We all have seen the pics of Shumacher on his Monster in jeans an running shoes.

No Derby, this is not a discussion about riders wearing full protective gear or not. This discussion is about FULL LEATHERS as the title indicates.

You know, I didn't want to start a flaming contest. I was simply curious about why the majority of Duc riders I've seen wear full leathers, not full gear, full leathers. The other groups I've been apart of rarely wore leather pants. Everything else, just not the pants. Maybe that's becuase Ducati riders usually have the money to buy the full leather gear. Maybe it's because they are serious, responsible, adult riders (mostly). Just curious.

As you can see by the pic, yes, I do wear full leathers when I'm seriously riding. If I crash going down the road to my favorite cafe, so be it, my textile pants, riding jeans, or cargo pants will have to do the job.

Peace, I'm out.

I always wear full gear when there is a Buell in the vicinity.  F'n Buells.   >:(   [bang]

maybe that it's because most riders who are on ducatis tend to have a little more cash flow and can usually afford full leathers.

That Nice Guy Beck!

it feels so good to ride in a t shirt and jeans, its like ahhhhhhh real nice

Motto - full gear all the time ..

That includes full face helmet, leather gloves, leather jacket with armour, boots and jeans (ardimid knees) or riding pants; Pants - leather for the track or an aggressive ride, or textiles with armour & rain zip out option.

... that being said ... if i slide I know I'll be bruised but not so scratched;

.... if i hit anything in that slide I know I'll be broken or worse.

I hope to god that I never hit anything on a bike or slide ... once was enough... with only slight damage to the bike and body.

I view the gear as part of the bike; on occasion I've riden without a peice and I feel odd and out of place on the bike.
.... all the world is yours.

IMO....if you're on the bike.....you're going for a ride.

Speak for yourself.

I'm flat out affording even the cheapest leathers.  [roll]
