Evil, I'm not taking any of this personally and as far as I know, neither is anyone else so you should have no fears of that. That being said, a little background on me...

When I have a passion, whether it's spending hours upon hours listening to the same song just so I know exactly how to juggle it's beat, it's timing or change it's tempo, or basically destroying my body time and time again trying to learn how to smith grind on both sides of the bike, or staying awake for days at a time contemplating just what shade of orange will look good in that painting or drawing...

Basically, I'm obsessed. Especially if it involves a passion of mine. Riding motorcycles is my newest latest passion and part of my obsession is wanting to share it with everyone I know and sharing it people I only "know" over the internet. If you ever get to meet her, ask my lady how sick she is of hearing about motorcycles, riding, and my riding friends.
I used to post up on the forums a lot because I was so excited by it all and I wanted to share it with all of the NYMMC. Since then, I've curbed in my post count because I started to think that maybe, just maybe, you guys are sick of me and simply weren't as enthusiastic about riding as I was so I've been keeping it to myself - mostly at the expense of my coworkers who now have to hear it.

I see your points and understand them. If there was any ill will on my part towards you or if I've made you feel excluded, for that I apologize, that was not my intention, I was simply as I stated above - obsessed.

The threads that requested all the US's to check their pm's... I agree, that can be and is annoying to those not included but there were good reason for those 2 occasions. For one, one of us crashed and when I learned about, I wanted to make sure all the rest of the US's learned about it and sent their well wishes to that person without involving the forum because I wasn't sure if that person cared if it was public knowledge or not. The easiest and fastest way for me to inform the other US's was via the NYMMC forum. We all check it everyday, multiple times throughout the day unlike our email or our blog.
The 2nd occasion happened because there was some internal strife happening within the US's and again, the easiest and fastest way to inform all the US's was through the NYMMC. This has all since been resolved and it's all love.

To seek to exclude anyone from the NYMMC from our rides, outtings, etc is a bit of a silly notion - and I'm not calling anyone silly. The reason is because we all met right here in the NYMMC, and on the group rides we do and we all share the same passion. We have all since formed great friendships on and off the bike and we have the NYMMC to thank for that. The Suspects and the entire DMF share the same passion - whether it's going out for a 700 mile ride or going nowhere but Starbucks... Whether it's buying performance mods for your bike to gain 2hp or buying rags and wax in an effort to keep your garage queen looking like she does... it's all the same, it's a passion.

The rides... While it's true that the length of the rides (time and mileage) certainly isn't for everyone, as most of you should know by now, in order to get to anything remotely close to a "good" road, you need to travel far out of the city. As such, if we're going 150 - 200 miles into PA, you're damn right we're NOT slabbing there so the route turns into an all day affair. IMO, it's the price one has to pay to get to a decent road.
While the bikes certainly are thirsty, making us stop every 100 miles, these are pretty much only times we stop. No sit down lunches, no brunches, nothing. Some folks may not appreciate all the 100 mile pit stops but there's nothing to be done about that unless we all buy beemers. In an effort to make the rides more appealing to a broader range of people, I've been shortening the routes and a lotting time out to eat if that's what folks want to do but even with these measures taken, most folks still don't want to come out.
During the season's first NYMMC get together (brunch in PJ), several people came up to me whom I've never met and expressed their interest in coming out for a ride, since then, I haven't been contacted.

Evil, you of all people in the NYMMC are the one that I'd love to ride with the most (you too klink). Whether you realize it or not, you've been a HUGE influence on the way I ride and most especially the way I lead a group and I appreciate all that you've inadvertently shown me / taught me. However, as you already know, it's logistically difficult for us to make riding together a regular possibility. At the beginning of the week I start to think about where to ride. This season we've been riding mostly to points west, avoiding the 'Skills because frankly I/we have ridden there so many times, all of it, that PA presents a nice change of pace - pun not intended. Between work, work, relationships, and friendships to maintain, I don't get around to actually plotting a route for the Sunday ride until very late in the week, usually it ends up being late Saturday night. This being the case, I won't know until very late that night where we'll be much less when we'll be. I suppose I can always plan ahead and plot out the route early in the week but unfortunately my schedule rarely allows for that. The only thing I can think of would be for you to have your bike here in the city on weekends so that it's a lot easier for you to meet up... is that an option? I'm hoping it is cause I really do enjoy riding AND hanging with you.

As for the rest of the NYMMC, if you're reading this... the US rides ARE NOT exclusionary. Everyone is welcome. All skills levels are welcome, shit, even within the Usual Suspects there are wide ranging skill levels so don't let that be an excuse. Male, female, black, white, yellow, brown, red, EVERYONE. That's one of the beautys I've found in motorcycling - you'll meet and make friends with people from all walks if life from all over the world. The only people that I won't tolerate are inconsiderate assholes, cry babies, and dangerous riders. While it's very true that some of you may not have the time or energy to ride all day, you're more than welcome to come out for as long as you can then break off early.
I used to have a limit on the amount of riders that come out (ideally 5 max), but this season I've been regularly towing around groups of up to 13 people. As long as I have a willing and able sweep rider, all will be well. I also used to have an ATGATT rule but that's out the window too. Ultimately that's up to you and your conscience. The constant posting by me and the rest of the US's are not meant to exclude anyone. This is just us and our enthusiasm about all things riding shining through. If this behavior isn't appreciated or welcomed, I for one will quickly and quietly find another place to vent. If you folks don't mind/care, then feel free to speak up so I/we can get on with being the asses that we are now known for.

If you leave im going to find you kick u in the nuts, frankly my gf is sick and tired of me babbling about riding as well, since nobody else is around to hear it.  So if you all leave she is make the beast with two backsed and i don't want to deal with an angry woman.  [bacon]

Going back to my original thread starting post...

I had a hunch that "usual suspect" stuff was causing a combination of aspiration and resentment.

Reading through these posts - especially Evil's and GC's exchange - it seems I was right on the money.
I live my life as a warning to others.

From what I can tell based on the activity on the board, we are the ones that ride the most. As such, we have the most stories to tell and share

I think there are lots of stories to tell, but not everyone posts them all up.

I like reading the "US" shenanigans and ride reports, and hope they don't stop.  but I will be honest though, I don't see the point in posting about "secret" roads.  Why bother then if you want to keep it secret?  Seems a bit odd to me and feeds the "cliquish" feel the posts can exude.  But maybe I'm the only one that feels that way.  :-X

Speaking for myself,  we don't attend "US" rides because they run too long for me.  I prefer to get home before 10pm, especially last year when we had 2 cats at home.  Another important reason was a safety concern, it was always posted that you guys don't stop for food, and Terry has diabetes, so we have to stop for food!  (AND I LIKE TO EAT!  ;D)

I will acknowledge that I am in a very special situation, in that #1 I have a riding buddy year round and we are at our beck and call.  ;)  I ride with 2001cromo almost every weekend, whether it's trackdays, out in the boonies or just locally (Harriman)

#2, we have close friends (like brothers and sisters) that we can ride with that aren't from NYMMC, but friends from outside the "motorcycle community" that happen to ride motorcycles, that we call on the phone to tell them a meet-up spot for a ride together, not having to post it on a board.   (With that said,  I have my own board where I post up rides for people that I know outside of NYMMC, that I've met through the years.  I don't post rides up here because I feel bad turning people away, and don't like riding with more than about 5 people.  A few years ago I posted a ride and had 30 people show up!  I vowed never again!  Especially after having someone crash out of the ride not 30minutes after the beginning.  And so I give GC all the kudos for posting his rides up!!!! and trying to give people the opportunity to go on a group ride.    I know and appreciate how much hard work it is.  [thumbsup]   When I do a ride, I can spend a week planning a route, programming my GPS, playing with maps and writing/printing up a route sheet for my group members.

and as a public service announcement may I add, for those that may not feel like they are up to snuff for a "US" ride, I  used to post up all the DESMO group rides and events, but gave up as no none seemed interested in DESMO.  So I will tell people once again:  DESMO runs safe and organized group rides with leaders and sweeps.  You will get a route sheet for the ride, so you can even go back if you like the route, at a later time.    And depending on how many leads/sweeps can volunteer for a group ride, there can be 3-5 groups of 6 riders (including leader and sweeper).    Just want to let people know there are alternatives, if they felt intimidated to join a "US" ride.

M - funny that you should pipe in... I thought of you guys as I was typing that line - "we ride the most". I wasn't trying to imply one thing or another, I know you guys put the miles in too, it's just a shamed that you, Terry and I can't get it together more often for a roll. My apologies for any offense...

As far as me and the NYMMC (can't speak for the rest of the US's), I'll be happy to stop posting up threads, group ride requests, and ride/trip reports. I thought we all had the same amount of enthusiasm for riding and for motorcycles but judging by the lack of activity on this board I guess I was wrong. No, I'm not saying that if you don't post up you don't love to ride, that's not what I'm saying at all. And yes Tommy, all is well, I just don't get all the drama all the time. Also, thanks to IG for proving my point... all the US's have each other's contact info, there's no need for me to post up for group rides since we the US's have enough riders to fill up a ride already. So why am I still posting up for rides? Cause I'm trying to give more and more people the chance to experience the same thing that I do while on a bike. Given this, I don't see how I/we can be accused to being exclusionary.

So forgive me for taking up all the room in this board with my enthusiasm. If any of you felt "left out", "excluded", or on the outside of an "inside joke", my apologies, that wasn't my intention, I was just trying to share the love. G'bye.*

Me personally I like to see you and the US's posting rides. Eventually my schedule will work and I will be on one.

Until then I like reading the stories and looking at the pictures of pink seats and babling brooks.  [thumbsup]

I gues I will add to it. I don`t get to ride much and I haven`t any friends who have bikes nor any desire to own one. If it wasn`t for the DMF and meeting people like the U.S. guys, Industrial girl, Grlantern, I would be riding by myself and probably have gotten rid of my bike after my first year. I have learned so much from these guys the few times I`ve ridden w/ them. Everyone is extremely helpful, and responsible. I have no one to share my new passion w/ except them and the DMF. Between a bunch of hobby`s, working a city job at night, owning a business, working on my house, family, and never sleeping, I look forward to the few times that  I can get on a good ride w/ anybody. I really appreciate the hard work that it takes to put a ride together,  lead a group, and take all the responsibility associated w/it. When I go on a ride being on a Sunday, I ride my bike to work that night, leave in the morning for the meetup, go home to sleep for an hour and/or go right back to work. I am shot for a day or two after. It is worth it to get on some good roads w/ great people.

I can agree on the secret stuff, as sometimes feeling a slight jealousy about it but, I take what I can get and make the most out of it. If the U.S. leaves the NYMMC board it will end up looking like the DML. You guys keep doing what you do.

I can also see just wanting to go out w/ people you know that are of similar skill levels, and not have any worries about the new guy. I am a decent snowboarder and I will take someone new from time to time. Most of the time I just grab a friend or two and go. It`s something I don`t get to do much and if I`m going to spend $75 on a lift ticket and 8 hrs in the car I want to get the most out of it. So by this I can relate to not posting rides all the time, but I love to hear about them and all the antics that went along w/ them.

I just don't post anymore.

Damn, there I go contradicting myself again.

steve you sold the gixxer you had?

Eric, honestly you're being a drama queen now (I think I am too), I'm not suggesting for a second that you or anyone else stop posting. What I'm saying is that the way some of it gets posted isn't *IMO* very inclusive. Specifically, the PM posts should be emails because when you pm people they're getting an email anyway, if not, just email them directly.

Your enthusiasm is a credit to you and I think your attitude has changed over time and the instances where I feel excluded are few and far between these days which is great.

You guys not posting here would be a great loss to this board and community so please, don't stop. Just try to be a little more aware that the way some of what you say comes across is a little discouraging for people. Even people (like me) who have the skill and riding habits to keep up and better yet enjoy one if your rides can be put off at times.

Yes, I know most of the reason I can't get to these rides is down to me. I also know that there are roads in the Catskills that you guys don't know. If I was going to be around next weekend (work trip OS) I'd probably be up for a ride but circumstances right now aren't good for riding or skydiving for that matter.

In any case let's take this chat off line and stop boring the shit out of everyone huh? ;)

No more gixxer, I've (kind of) had an S4Rs all year.

In any case Dan, you know I love you. I mean, whom else's house would we stop to pee on?* Moving forward, you have my info, if we want to ride together we can make it happen, we just need to plan better for it. My thanks for speaking up about "US", I'll try to keep the "US centric" threads down to a minimum but apart from Tommy and Jake, the rest of the US's only frequent the NYMMC, myself included. Oh and Mook, it's not about who's the fast/slow guy/gal, it's about who's having fun cause that's all that matters on our rides.
