I had one written but it was too morbid and too self loathing, you guys don't need to see that. Instead I'll let the pics do the talking -

Incident #1

Incident #2

No animals or humans were injured in the making of the photos thanks to wearing proper riding gear. All the US's wear gear from head to toe including CE level 2 back protectors in addition to the stock back protectors in our jackets. Yes it's bulky, yes it's uncomfortable, yes it's hot but you know what? Guardrails and trees hurt. You're a fool if you wear anything less than full gear when out riding, plain and simple and I mean no offense to anyone.

I'm glad you're ok Mookie.

At this point in time I have decided to stop posting up for rides here in the NYMMC. This includes open calls and otherwise. People keep on crashing on these rides and I need to figure out what I can do or not do to help this situation. Hopefully sometime in the near future I can start posting up for rides again but until I wrap my head around this phenomenon, I'm done, you all are safer this way (not that I feel the boys and I ride dangerously cause we don't).

If you all remember the following, you will be much healthier and happier -
- wear your gear
- DO NOT ride over and above your skill level
- DO NOT over and above your comfort zone
- DO NOT try to play catch up with the riders in front of you
- listen to your instincts
- follow rule #1 according to the Usual Suspects - "Just because you can, doesn't mean you should." This of course goes hand in hand with our other motto - The Usual Suspects - clever? Yes! Common sense? Not so much.

Why do roaches always die on their back?

That because the survivors flip them over to steal their sneakers and wallets.

thank guys. sorry if I was the straw that broke the camels back. the pace wasn't bad when I fell gc. I was a little out of it  after the whole soccer mom trying to run pat off the road for passing her. came into theturn to hot, add a little water, a quick glance at the woods, and u know the rest. 1st time not too bad. lost a peg borrowed one from the rear. should of listened to GC but thought I would be fine. second time came in too hot into a 15 miler, went a little wide and hit the dirt. should of been able to handle that one. I've practiced those w/a knee down numerous times at that speed. head wasn't in to it.

as of now I guess im out for the season. I am fine thanks to full gear and good people.more upset about GC and how he is fealing. my new tank is unrepairable. I didn't even get to go a whole day w/her looking as good as she did. I was so happy in the morning about it and was looking forward to this ride for a while.I always say I can never have anything nice w/out it getting ruined.

I'm going to do some more formal instruction next season, as I was going to do track day next week. I think it will let me progress properly. I can't really pay to fix her now going to check insurance. tank, midpipe, muffler may total it.

I think about how many of us went down this year and came out w/out a scratch. lucky so far. also of all the times I got hurt doing other sports. the concussions from snowboarding, how many times I went over the bars raceing mtn bikes, pulling a ligament surfing, 15 stitches in my face and another head injury dowhill skateboarding li's biggest hills.almost capsizing my boat fishing moriches inlet which I know very well. those were all learning experiences and this was one too. hope there aren't any more.

thanks GC for taking me out. sorry if I ruined your rep. see you at the kart track.

First and foremost Mooks glad to hear you are OK.

GoldenChild, I feel as if you can't stop posting rides. This forum is set-up for people to be able to meet with and ride with new people who have the same bike, interests, etc. That said people gotta accept responsibility for their own actions, it's not your fault that shit went down. But for the forward progress of this site, NYMMC, and the US's you gotta post up rides. People gotta rid at their own limits. Anyway, I don't know what went on out there. But thank God everyone is alright.

Hey Mookie--

I was where you are very recently. All I can tell you is please don't be too hard on yourself, and instead figure out what you need to learn from this. My crash a few weeks ago was a very valuable reminder that I'm a VERY new rider and I need a couple more years and a lot more good habits under my belt before I do the kind of riding I was doing. It was entirely my fault, and it happened because my confidence was getting bigger than my skills.

GC, unless Mookie or someone else contradicts me, this was NOT your fault. To everyone else, go back and reread GC's warnings. You all know this stuff, and I'm not trying to make anyone quit riding (like my dad is trying to make me). However, what we are doing is dangerous, and it's pretty fortunate that none of us have gotten more seriously hurt.

Ride within your abilities! When I get back on a bike, I'm self-imposing what I'm calling an 80% limiter. If I notice that I'm getting anywhere near my limits, I'll back off. If I'm surprising myself with how well or fast I'm riding, I'll back off. Notice that I say "surprising myself." Riding well is the goal, of course, but if I'm suddenly feeling better than I've ever felt on the bike, that's when the ego kicks in and I start feeling like I can do anything...

Wear your gear! I slid about 30 feet on asphalt and gravel, and hit a guardrail post instead of going over a cliff. I was going 30MPH at most! I don't think it was even that fast, probably more like 25. I was wearing my brand new Arai helmet and my trusty Teknic stormtrooper suit. The helmet has a nickel-size scrape, and may still be usable. The suit has a scuff on the sleeve and a gouge on the shoulder slider. Neither is very noticeable. I stood up (after being told not to by about five people) with a bruise on my elbow that went away after three days. Can you imagine what I would have looked like in jeans and a t-shirt? Again, this is at roughly 25mph. I would have been missing (by my rough estimate) about two square feet of skin and an ear. Did my gear cost me some money? Hell yes! About $1500 for the outfit I was wearing that day. Am I glad I paid that? Sho' you right!

I'm sorry for threadjacking, Mookie, but this is stuff that's been on my mind for a few weeks and it seemed like a good time to write it up. I'm glad to hear you're OK physically, and I hope you're doing OK mentally too... that took me a little longer. Don't sweat it too much, just know what you need to know, you know?

Mook...  I'm just glad you're OK.  You gave me 2 heart attacks yesterday!  It's such a bad feeling to see your buddy sliding off the road.. and those seconds when you're turning around, hoping everything is ok.  The bike parts are replaceable, you're not.

And not to worry, the day wasn't a bust.  After throwing down some delicious pancakes & bacon, we went out to catch some more daylight and hit some of our favorite roads.

Cru...   +1 for letting me borrow your gear yesterday [as most of mine is in Oregon].
- maybe I should have worn underwear, now I have a crazy rash on my business...  is there something you need to tell me?

Just kidding...  I really missed riding with you guys  ;)

Mookie - Sorry to see you go down yesterday. The important thing, of course, is that you're ok. What was also amazing is that you're bike was still rideable after the second crash.  :o

Pat - You'd better not be free-balling in my leathers! You gots to wear undies, son!

GC - Muchas gracias amigo for leading yet again. Also, I can understand you feeling a sense of responsibility regarding the recent surge of get-offs (I know I would too), but you've got to remind yourself that you give many warnings, both posted on the DMF & pre-ride  and that people are responsible for their actions.

Oh, I've got some vid of the ride to post up, but after spending 4 hrs trying to figure out how the FLIP video made my Movie Maker stop working, I didn't get the vid editted until 3.00AM. I tried to upload it, but it timed out at 95%. I'll try again later & post up the link.
