He is smart, I know I can't compete!  Man, to think the founding fathers had it all wrong.......maybe we should be "fair" and dive into socialism.  It's not like we've ever fought wars to keep from doing so.  You are right, this is America, the land of the free, but that doesn't mean everything from healthcare to retirement.  It's the land of the free, where you have the ability to work hard and and make smart decisions and have a good life.  It's not the land of the free hand out (although it's definitely moving that way).  It's the land of opportunity, where you can make your own decisions and become wealthy.  You can choose to sell cars for a living, be in a union, work for government, etc... your "class level" whether upper, middle or lower is from the decisions that you made in life.  There are people in this country who started with nothing, and are extremely wealthy, and there are people in this country who started life extremely wealthy, who have nothing now.  It's all in the choices that we make...........but what sets us apart from other countries, and why people come to this great land of opportunity, is that we have the choice.

I would agree with what you say entirely if it were not for the fact that it's been clear throughout our history and to this day that the playing field for "choices" is not the same for everyone, the rules are simply different. We cannot, with a straight face, claim that everyone has the same choices and opportunity given the same level of motivation for a particular goal; it's just not so.

  Also we have have fought wars against Monarchs, Fascists, & Communists BUT Socialists ( & Communists in WW2 ) were our allies - oops ! 

I guess this is why politics is proscribed on the Forum - everyone has a right to get this wrong !!
