s2r800

so i am thinking of selling my 07 s2r800.w/3k miles...the dealer offfered me more than retail in trade...$8500 towards the purchase of a 2008 1098s...but - no wiggle room on the price of the 1098s - being that it is the end of the year up norht - is this a fair deal?

i dont want to deal with selling the bike to an individual - maybe only get $7000 anyway - plus by trading it i wil lget the tax reduction o nthe new bike...i guess i am not sure if i am better off sellign to an individual for less and tryign to negotiate a better price on the 1098s....any suggestions?

Try and go to a different shop and see what they can do for price on the 1098.  Don't mention your trade until you have a firm price on the new bike.  See what deal is better.

Personally, I buy all of my motorsports toys at least 2 years old. I paid $32k for my 2006 Mercedes, and it was certified from the dealer. It was $55k new. I could buy new, but why? Let some other guy take the depreciation hit.

If you are the type that has to have the newest latest and you have the means, then go for it, but not before making some calls to other dealers in the region. Go out to Ducati's website and find all the dealers within 500 miles. The economy is headed for the swamp, and I'm sure there are dealers out there willing to deal.

Just my 2 cents.

You said it yourself. Winter is coming. Soon, they will be selling no bikes, and desperate to sell anything. Wait until maybe just before Christmas, when no one has any money. See if they'll either wiggle on the price, or give you free gear/maintenance.

Doesn't sound like a bad deal to me. You get more for your bike than you think you call sell it for yourself, don't have to hassle with a private sale, plus you get to subtract the trade-in value from the 1098s price when calculating sales tax...which will save you even more money.

Dealer is happy because he unloaded a 1098s, and he has an S2R800 which he can sell easier than the SBK.

Will they be willing to knock a few $$ off the 1098 over winter? Maybe...maybe not. They may also not give you as much in trade then either though...since they're not selling bikes as easily.

If they're not willing to budge on the 1098s price, and you want it, then think of something else that has value for you. Anything from service to gear to accessories. Maybe they'll be willing to throw something else in if they don't have to lower the 1098s price. Focusing on cost alone can be a big mistake in negotiating...just think of something that has value for YOU, and may not be too big of a deal for the dealer.

In the end it boils down to you being happy with the deal...not us.

+1 on used stuff. They may not be willing to deal on the price of the 1098 but they are giving you an awesome price for yours. I imagine it would all work out the same, you find a place wiiling to deal on the 1098 would prolly offer you less for your trade.

I agree.  Ride in on a cool bike, ride out on a really cool bike.  Seems simple enough.  The numbers look good enough for me.  Ask them to throw in a jacket or something.  Wouldn't hurt.  Good luck!

I agree! 8500 tax exempt?  Sounds like a kickass deal to me!
