Lyndy, I was thinking about that yesterday; putting the stock cans back on could make a real difference.  I'll be curious to hear how this all turns out... Your bike is way too nice to be out of commission

Maybe you could try covering up half of the air filter and see how it runs.  See if the burble goes away, gets worse, or shifts in RPM range.

Completely--the open box is something we discussed on one of the runs for possibly contributing to the lean condition. 

Lyndy--if covering part of the box helps, you are more than welcome to use my cover at the track (it should fit, yes ?). Since my bike will be parked  , I will not be needing it.

How'd the plugs look?

I'm sure they'll tell you that the bike is waay lean with the open airbox and free-er breathing exhaust.

I bet if you put the stock lid and cans back on, it'll be a lot happier.  That or get new jets that will accommodate the extra air mass that's entering/exiting the motor.

I just finished putting the stock cans back on - now I can't get it to start   

It was hard to start after Randy adjusted the idle but jeez how long should I keep trying it??

how long have you been trying to start it?  the battery may have gotten weak with all the cranking its doing.

take the SC1000 for trackday

IMO i don't think swapping cans would change that much to where it wouldn't start
