Close call today for me

A SUV tried to eat me today.

Things I did right

I Believe I had the correct passing speed. I was not going to slow to be in the danger zone to long and I was not going to fast to not be able to react fast enough.

I was in the fast Lane and since I was passing a car on my right I hugged the left lane to have more cushion between me and the car. I was also able to use the shoulder as extra road. This is prob what saved me.

Instead of Braking I decided to accelerate around the car. I believe this was the correct thing to do in this situation since I did not know how close cars were behind me?

Things I did wrong

I was in the wrong gear. I could have had a quicker response if my bike was 500 to 1000rpms higher

You did the right thing. Remember that if you were on the freeway, you probably wanted to be in that taller gear for engine longevity and fuel mileage. Maybe you had time to kick it down and maybe not. it sounds like you were focused on your escape route, and were mindful of the potential hazard behind you.  [thumbsup]

Rob,

Glad to hear you made the escape.  Good thing you were paying attention.  Ride safe buddy. [moto]

+1 to everything so far.

I can't wait until Marquez gets on his level and makes Jorge trip on his tampon string.

glad you lived to write the tale.

did this little "oh shite" moment fix your sore back?  funny how adrenaline can make pain go away.

a presto amico.

Yeah My back is back to normal. It was fine the next day after the San Jose Meet up  [thumbsup]

Once I looked back and thought about the close call several seconds after it my heart was beating faster but I calmed down almost instantly.

Glad you're ok buddy, good thing you weren't on a 620, nice to have the power of the core of the earth behind that huge radiator.

Good call on gassing it. Shoulders are full of crap/debris and typically are treacherous places to try and brake.
