Anybody own a 1098 and have an opinion of it?

A few months ago, I rode a 1098 and I can't get it out of my head.  It's gorgeous and, to quote a favorite Brit  mag, "bowel-looseningly fast".  I own an '04 S4R which I enjoy riding for both fun and commuting.

I am dreaming of life with a 1098 but wonder if it can be an enjoyable bike to ride for daily-driving duties, or if:
1) it's too uncomfortable (6'1" rider) for in-town riding
2) it has heat issues
3) it's frustrating that you can never blast around at full throttle (since you wind up doing 140mph in a heartbeat and you need to slow down)
4) any other drawbacks I haven't considered?

Thanks for any insight!

Never wrestle with pigs. You both get dirty, and the pigs like it...

it's fun just knowing your faster than 97% of anything that's  out on the road with you ;D

I'm 6'2" and I have no problems with intown. you just have to ride it different than a monster. more knees and torso , and learning the relax the arms and hands.

I live in Satans furnace (Bakersfield Ca).... and yes, the bike gets hot, but its nothing worse than any other bike I've had. (that's a clothing/gear issue, and not a bike issue)

But.... that being said.... I like my monster for short intown riding, better than the 1098.

have both  ;)

Gaspar, Melchior and Balthasar kicked me out of the band..... they said I didnt fit the image they were trying to project.

So I went solo.  -Me

1) it's too uncomfortable (6'1" rider) for in-town riding Personal, but for me it's doable.
2) it has heat issues Yes...bike gets hot. Anything over 80 out and it can be uncomfortable at stoplights. My air cooled MTS is MUCH better on hot days.
3) it's frustrating that you can never blast around at full throttle (since you wind up doing 140mph in a heartbeat and you need to slow down) After a couple trackdays, riding the 848 in town can be frustrating for sure.
4) any other drawbacks I haven't considered?

I rode BP's bike on a hot day just outside of Satin's furnance on HWY 58...........  I had so much FUN on that thing I didn't notice any flaws other than I couldn't see $hit when I looked in the mirrors which is pointless anyway because if I owned one....... I'd never look back ;D

Coming from my S2R1K I almost launced myself over the bars the first time I squeezed the brakes.........felt like a total noob [laugh]

The motor is simply amazing & I could absolutely live with the riding position but I think I would lose my license if it was my daily rider [evil]

Thanks BP [beer]

As an owner of (2 ) S4Rss an loved my S4Rs  I thought forever, and nothing would come between us....well this Spring I got a 1098 R.

I've never had so much fun !   I only ride it on the Street as opposed to Tracking it.

It is setup for the track w, the Race Termi Exhaust and ECU w, DTC. I had a 1098  for a short time and it was hell in town . All hurky jerky but this " R " is easy to ride in town . I hate in town riding. It does throw off alot off heat. I'm 6'5" and now w, gear I'm 265 lbs. and have no problem w, being able to ride it.

It just wants to run and you can't do that in a town , so if you can find me I'm in the Hills and Forest of Southeastern , Ohio.

I can't think of a bike that for the money I'd rather have. Even for $50K I wouldn't sell it if I couldn't get a replacement.

Only down side if you want to call it a down side is the faster you ride it the better it feels.

I rode a friend's 1098s around a bit and all I can say is - big make the beast with two backsin' deal.  After all the hype it was a bit of a letdown.

Monster is #1 in my book.  Don't see how someone would trade one (and pay twice as much) for an SBK...  ???

A friend let me ride his, and yes I would give my left nut for one [thumbsup]
Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity.

Great insight, all...good to know.  I appreciate hearing this from Monster riders.  Looks like I'll be keeping the 1098 at the top of my list.  And I think I'll try to get an extended test ride sometime soon.
