Gary Medley comparing Ben to Scott Russell.

http://www.superbikeplanet.com/2009/May/medleyspiesrussell.htm

Russell had a part-time "learning" season in World Superbike in 1992 before he hit the series full time in 1993. That experience culminated with him winning the world title for Kawasaki in '93. Spies, obviously, had no learning season in WSBK to learn the tracks and acclimate.

"Ben has done an awesome job," Medley says. "He's helped by having (crewchief Tom) Houseworth there, but you can just (tell) by looking at him in the races and see he's riding so hard. That's so impressive."

Spies' unfortunate run of DNFs has hurt his title hopes and critics now infer that somewhow Spies will have failed in World Superbike if he doesn't win the title.

Medley, known, shall we say, for not holding his opinions back, sputters, "Who says that? I'll tell you who: dumb people. People who don't know nothing. What Ben's done there is nothing short of amazing, title or no title. Think of how he's changed that series, look at how many riders it took 1-2-3 years to learn the bike and the tracks and win races. Spies goes to places he's never seen before and waxes them."

This is getting good.  Ben is unbelievable!  All it takes are a couple of DNF's on Haga and Ben will have a chance.  Anything can happen, it is still early enough in the season.  It makes for good TV too [beer]

I'm pretty sure I'm gonna lose this bet, but that Nori will win the championship.

$25 to the airfence fund...I may even do $50 if the cash flow situation is right.  ;) You wouldn't necessarily have to.

Nori over Spies in the standings at the end of the season. Neither has to win the championship.
