it's just hard for me to get over throwing away tradition.

Ferrari=prancing horse
Lamborghini=Raging Bull
Porsche=Shield
BMW=spinning prop

those are timeless designs. why does Ducati have to keep changing!

oh and it's right on the tank guard on the new SF

k.

1. Does the logo have anything to do with the bike that it is attached to?
2. Tradition -- okay, um... what about bevel heads, carbs, and drum brakes. Traditionaly Ducati's had those too. Want them back?
3. I'm sure you could buy an old logo, or get a vinyl one made. I'll take your new logo off your hands.

Ducati logo and font changes usually happen when ownership changes hands.  Logos do also get freshened up from time to time, though often the change is slow and subtle.  Even Bibendum, (the Michelin Man), has changed over the years.  Anyway, I buy motorcycles, not logos.

We're talking the new logo on the Ducati.com website right?  Not the same shape Ducati Corse logo with the old split D on it, right?  Anybody notice that the new logo and the stripe in particular has a strong resemblance to Puma's stipe?  With all the cross-branding products out there, could it be intentionally designed to attract the Puma wearing people, or so that the bike logo is matchy matchy with some puma gear people might be wearing while on their bikes?  Ducati's are cool.  Puma gear is cool.  Meet in the middle with Ducati-Puma gear with interchangeable logos?
I met this girl named Virginia.  She said "nice bike, you can call me Virgin for short, but not for long"

Come to think of it, Puma shoes do have a lot of puffy plastic on them.

I noticed the similarity of the swoop shape in the middle of the 'shield' and the Puma swoop as well.  But, that shape is not part of the Puma logo.  The logo's the Puma silhouette and typographic lock up.  That shape, though iconic to Puma shoes does not appear on all things branded Puma.  But yeah, it wouldn't be too hard to cross over those elements - Like a shoe with the Ducati Shield and the Puma Swoosh as the middle curve of the shield... Hmmm it's a conspiracy

FWIW My read on that form is the curve of a road/track.  And based on that Ducati video, it seems my guess is on track at least if not, spot on.

Ducati was using the prancing horse before Ferarri slapped it on their cars.
I still want to put that on my tank.

IMO Ducati is a traditionalist company, new buyers will love the changes, the current owners will always fight it.

I do not think people will buy a bike based on a logo, at least I hope not. People buying branded products is something I do not understand and never have. When I owned a Harley I refused to wear or even own anything HD except the bike. I have relented on the Ducati stuff and own some shirts and two hats but I will not be a slave to branding and refuse to buy branded shoes or other items simply because they have Ducati on them. I am not paying extra to advertise, if they want me to use branded gear or products they better be free.  [laugh]

Francesco Baracca used it before either of them did. 8)

I guess the prancing horse was good enough for Ferrari...   Ducati sacrificed their heritage to lure us young punks into the dealership  lol
