FWIW: Shure Sound E2C headphones are amazing with helmets!! Yeah, I know.... They fit comfortably in your ear, the cords go over and behind the ears, so they don't get snagged when pulling the old bucket on. Sound quality is astounding!!!

In short, they rock!!

In town, it's just ear plugs and off key warbling. For long trips (i.e. 1 hr+), I feel that having some tunes is an essential thing...keeps you motivated and zooming along.

I actually don't have tunes running through the ride that often. I take things more visually and snap mental pictures along the way.

I will listen to iTunes (wirelessly) if the ride is long enough. Otherwise, I will sing in my helmet. It's very loud and annoying. Once after a very long ride I sang Barney songs for the last hour. I was really tired. iTunes is such an improvement.

I don't wear headphones that often, but I will sing, hum and make random noises.  Usually I just hum in tune with my bike.  I almost make a game out of it trying to stay in tune when changing gears and speeds.

"Thanks for the fabulous signal!"
"That is a red light."
"Son of a b**ch!"

I know this sounds hokey, but a lot of times especially when I first started riding I say a quick 'keep me safe' affirmation right after I pull the chin strap tight. Being in my helmet can be a place of quiet reflection where I can hear my thoughts the clearest... Sometimes I express them by yelling, crying, cursing, singing, laughing and yowling outrageously!! But no yodeling 

And then there's the songs...lately I keep hearing "Somebody's Watching Me" and sometimes it's Micheal Jackson's "Bad" 

I guess it's good I don't listen to an Ipod because I've got the tunes already going.

I sing Bon Jovi or U2 pretty regularly.  Not whole songs.  I just repeat the chorus over and over again.   Just my widdle brain can't store any more than that, and I'm pretty cheesy (and stuck in the late 80s). 

I also use the phrase "mothermake the beast with two backser" a lot, especially in traffic, and usually in conjuction with "make the beast with two backs you, go make the beast with two backs yourselfyou make the beast with two backsing make the beast with two backsed-up make the beast with two backs of a mothermake the beast with two backsing useless, stupid make the beast with two backsing mothermake the beast with two backser".  (I have rage issues, ya see . . ).  And it's loud enough that sometimes I catch pedestrians looking at me, even over the sound of the bike.  And drivers with their windows down have taken notice on occasion, especially when there are children in the car.  Oops.   

I found that singing during races was really helpful for going fast, particularly if I had open track.  It would remind me to relax, and I'd ususally drop at least a second a lap from when I started singing.  Talking to myself worked pretty well too.  I never yodelled during a race, but FWIW I threw bike parts (or my bike or myself) at Dan any time he came near me.
