I think I need a new Pressure Plate (PLEASE look at pic!) ...

I dunno, but the plates all have orientation markings and every manual I've read states that you should obey.

Maybe it doesn't matter....  I dunno.

But I obey, because I'm not keen on ever purposely ignoring something that might bugger up the system.
HOWEVER, FYI....  I couldn't find any differences to the pressure plate other than the marking.   But what do i know.

Sooo.. .  pressure plates need to be oriented a certain way or they don't go on?

I've had a bunch of plates off and back on, I never paid attention to the index.  I've never had one not go right back on.

What am I missing?

You must have been lucky...
you'll find that if the mark on the clutch hub post and the mark on the pressure plate aren't lined up the hub post's wont line up with the holes in the PP when the teeth are engaged. I think you may be able to get away with being one hole away from the mark, but the posts wont be in the center of the PP holes when teeth are engaged.

Interestingly, I bought this pressure plate:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/DUCATI-BILLET-748-996-999-1098-CLUTCH-PRESSURE-PLATE-RD_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ72Q3a1171Q7c66Q3a2Q7c65Q3a12Q7c39Q3a1Q7c240Q3a1318Q7c301Q3a0Q7c293Q3a1Q7c294Q3a50QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem380087962657QQitemZ380087962657QQptZMotorcyclesQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

And it didn't have a mark that I could find.  I figured out the proper orientation by comparing the hole to teeth pattern between the new versus stock pressure plates.  If you look at the back the spacing of teeth to holes is definitely not symmetrical.

Looks like there is a mark inside the spring well for the one at the 8'oclock position. Is that it, or is it something weird in the pic? Many of the marks are really small.

Hub has 37 teeth, and there are 6 spring posts.

37 is not evenly divisible by 6, so there's only one way the PP can mate with the hub, as the PP engages with the hub and spring posts.

Well I put it back together with the stock P.P. for now (glass bead blasted) ...

I like the looks of it with the SPYDER and the SS springs and bolts !!!

That looks very nice.  I'm interested in combining that Spyder spring retainer with an EVR pressure plate to give it color layers.  Imagine a black Spyder on the following:

Opinions?  ;D
You can live to 100 if you give up all the things that make you want to live to 100.

That looks good with the bead blast finish. I might just do that with mine. I was going to use the Dremel to wire brush the finish but I like that better.

Nope, perfect as it is [thumbsup] (no Spyder, IMO)

OK, lets get practical (cheap) for a minute here.  This replacement is a balance of Bling Value and Repairing a flaw.  In this case the ratio is 100% bling and 0% for repair.  Unless the bottom of the spring buckets have actually bent, and the bottoms are breaking out, the pressure plate is transferring all of the spring force to the plates.  The holes are of no consequence.
