Custom Part Ideas (for local work)

Hey everyone, does anyone here know a local place where I can get some custom work done on this plate thats part of the alternator cover or have one custome made?

Ducati Part Number 247.1.002.1BC for an '03 620.

I found out a year or so ago that my Monster is a bit rare in that only 199 of my model were shipped to the US. So I'd like to have something nice like a 1 of 199 enscribed on there like I think that I've seen on the S4RS Tricolore and mabe have the italian flag in enscribed on there too.

If anyone has any alternative ideas, I'm also open to suggestions. I just want something small but meaningful.

Maybe look at a trophy business, they do a lot of engraving? Its just a matter if they can clamp it on the machine.

Ultimatly, I would like to have raised lettering rather than recessed.

I haven't a clue where to go to get something like that done!

Dave, just about any machine shop could do it, but you would need to have some pretty detailed drawings. Also, for a one-off piece, be prepared to spend quite a bit of money, my guess is a few hundred dollars. Another option might be to try and get something made that would fit in the little circular area of the stock part.

If you asked for this 3 months ago I could have helped you. Unfortunately, Mean Old Mister Economy took a dump and we had to sell our CNC machines... Dietrich is right it will be easily several hundred dollars to have that machined. If you have a CAD program, you can save yourself a little of money if you draw it for them.

Well, that puts it on the back burner then. I appreciate the tips. Cost is certainly a factor. Oh well, I'll keep it on the back burner and see what happens.

Dave, I just thought of something. If you're OK with a stick-on deal, like something that could attach to the stock cover, there's a material that some jewelers are using called "precious metal clay" or PMC. It's something like 90% pure silver, but you can work it like clay and then fire it which burns out the binders and melts the silver together. There is some shrinkage when it fires. I'm thinking of maybe a coin or medalion that could be fixed to the cover. You would just carve it out, fire it, and then you can dril it, sand it, polish it, file it, whatever. I've been wanting to try it for some ideas I have, but don't have access to a kiln. They do sell small ovens just for the purpose. Just a thought.

That's not a bad idea, and it would give me the freedom to craft it the way that I really want....

...I'll have to think about that....that's interesting.
