I have run out of fuel today even though the yellow light came on and in the past has been good for another 20miles or 30km .lucky i only had to push the bike 1 mile in 90f heat to get fuel.

But I recently raised the rear ride height and today the light came on and 5 miles later i ran out of gas completely. So learn from me guys, the sensor will only read reliably when tank is level on standard settings . raise the rear end and it will not be a good guide anymore.

Thanks for the input, I'm planning on liftin her a bit once it gets warm out.  Did effect your range at all or do you still get to use all the gas in the tank?

What's your ride?  I've jacked my 05 S2R800 up to the limit and I get about 50 mi after the light comes on and stays on (not after a corner, etc.)

i dont think ride height would affect the fuel level sender that much, it will to a degree, but not that much, i think its mainly the the sender itself sticks sometimes and wont notify u that the level is low.  ive had the light come on sometimes, other times it starts sputtering and im outa fuel with no warning. now i just use mileage and get gas every 125 miles or so.

Why are you relying on your low fuel light instead of your trip meter?

You should always fill up at 120 or 150, or whatever leaves you with a safe margin.  On my bikes for normal riding, I fill up at 120 and most of the time the low fuel light is not on yet.  So the bike takes 3.5 gallons and I know that I'm safe from running out of gas.  When I ride all highway miles, I'll go to 150 or 160, since it gets better mileage when ridden like that.

Save the low fuel light for a reminder that you forgot to keep an eye on the trip meter.

Good point Scott .. normally I do .But the light has been reliable guide as well on all my Ducatis until ride height is changed.
