The field was recently, about a month ago, hayed so I don't think I'll bother to break out the brush hog. I've been using the lawn tractor to mow part of it for tent sites along with the regular lawn, so about an acre.

I would mow the piece by the brook, but the floods last year left a real mess. I need to get out there next spring and pick a dump truck load of rocks deposited before I can really mow it...even with the brush hog.

so we are talking a decent size lot here.


Did you do the haying or lease it out to a friend?

I've assisted in bailing before.....make the beast with two backs....that sucks when it is 95 degrees and humid.

We have just under 4 acres...some wooded.

I let a friend do it for free...he'll spread some manure this fall to pay back the land.

I've helped fill barns with hay...any aspect of farming/keeping farm animals is a lot of work. You need to enjoy it (the animals and the work) or it sucks. ;)

Amen to that.

I had fun doing it. It was helping out my brothers friend down in Mitchell, Indiana who has a few hundred head of black Angus, which is a decent size cattle farm for southern Indiana.

The pay:

fresh t-bones for dinner  ;D
