Headlight Mod on S2R 1000 (Photos)

Ok, as promised, below are a few photographs where it is easier to see the headlight.

Is it a threadjack to ask you about the shorty?  I haven't seen one of those.

hmmmm...it looks alright, I think it'd look much better with the trim/bezel painted black, just my opinion...

Hi Kevin,

From what i remember, the shortie fits fairly easy. The pipes coming out of it are larger than those that come out of the udder and I fabricated some sleeves to fit between them in order to bridge the gap. Yes, the pipes of the siortie go over the ones from the udder. Then I just ordered a couple of smaller clamps that fit the pipes of the shortie. I am not sure but I think I had to cut some gaps into the shortie pipes in order for them to tighten with the clamps. At least on my bike, the difference of alignment on the set of pipes is minor and i was able to fit it straight up. It does fit very close to the tire and I had to be careful when tightening the clamps so that the shortie would not rub on the tire. There is only abut 1/4"-1/2" gap between them right now. It sems like the alignment is slightly different and that is the reason for the tighter fit, but it is so minor that it never became a major issue and it's been running fine for a year now.

I actually like it. It goes well with your bike and I don't think you need to paint it. The black and gray matches well. Nice job!

Hey, thanks for all that information.  So, that particular slip-on is not a ducati-specific one?  I went to the Termi site and didn't see anything like it for the S2R- so I'm guessing you picked up a generic one, and fabricated from there.  You remember the model number? 

I'm not super-excited about fabricating at this point, but that does seem to be a nice comprimise if you're in a state that is going to require emissions, and you have to keep the udder.  It looks good, and opens up the back well.  I don't supposed you had it dyno'd?

I'm not super-excited about fabricating at this point, but that does seem to be a nice comprimise if you're in a state that is going to require emissions, and you have to keep the udder.  It looks good, and opens up the back well.  I don't supposed you had it dyno'd?

I love it! Looks awesome. I've been wanting to do this to my custom S2R1K but can't find a newer headlight used I'm too much of a tightwad to buy a new one. Good work!

As Alexandre said, the shortie is a Termignoni part designed for Ducati's Monster s4r and s4rs (Testatretta engined only according to them) I do not have the part number. The muffler itself did not require fabrication. The only unusual part of the install was the sleeves to bridge the gap between the two pipe sizes. This you can do from a piece of pipe you get at autozone or any other generic auto part store and cutting a slit with a saw in order for them to expand and contract as you tighten the clams. It actually took ame about 30 minutes to do the entire thing and get this, I did it in the parking lot of Autozone! No biggie at all!!
