Anyone know how to remove baffles?

Don't know if this would be a good option for my bike, but would like to investigate this matter. Has anyone done this?

If you have the stock cans, no removable baffles... You have to core the stockers. [thumbsup]

I cored my exhaust last week.  It was pretty easy.  I found a thread on ducati.ms under the hypermotard section.  I'll go back tomorrow and try and find the link for you and post it up.  Here's my quick description.

1.  Remove the exhaust cans.
2.  Take a punch and a drill and remove the stainless caps
3.  They said you could use a saw-zaw to cut the caps off, but I used a grinder and a torch.  There's two caps to remove.  The first has 3 tack welds you have to cut through.  Once you get those removed, cut the actual exhaust can at the weld.
4.  You have to break the peashooter loose (it looks like a baffle).  Took me a while to get it, but I just used a pry bar and worked the welds loose.  There 3 tacks on that piece also.  It opens up the hole that the exhaust flows out of.
4.  Reweld the end of the exhaust pipe back on and grind it smooth.  Make sure you get a good weld all the way around so it doesn't leak.
5.  You can put the other cap on by matching up the welds and just tacking them on with the old welds.  I chose to leave those off and it makes the exit a little smaller.  Some guys were drilling that cap to match the hole from the exit of the can.
6.  Put the stainless caps back on and install new rivets.  You can use stainless or the aluminum ones, I like the stainless because they keep the look of the cap.

The whole thing took me two days because I had someone that cut the caps off, then I removed the peashooter and then had to take it back to him to weld it all back together.  If you have all the tools, shouldn't take more than a few hours.

I love the sound of it.  I can't pay the $3k for the Termis, but I still wanted a good full sound and that's what it got me.

I forgot you'd posted this up earlier G. Very well detailed. Aside from the obvious audible improvement, did you notice any other improvements? Do you have to change the air box? Does the fuel mixture need adjusting afterwards?  Looks to me like an afternoon of brews, BBQ and WSBK watching some good weather weekend! ...and explosives!

P.S., on the issue of air box, what about putting in a K&N filter? Does that help?

As for performance, I'm not sure.  I didn't have a chance to ride the bike before I did the exhaust.  I was in the process of building it and was waiting on parts...I got bored because I didn't have anything to put on the bike, so I thought what the hell....I'll core the exhaust tonight!  I've only one run tank of gas through it and got about 110 miles to the tank.  From what I've read, that's about avg MPG. 

I've read about doing the air box lid and that's prob the next mod that I'll attempt.  I've seen dyno sheets that show 4hp improvement from the airbox mod.  4 hp, not bad...and it's FREE!!!

Seriously, though, mine had very little popping on hard decel after the mod, but I had the stock filter and unmolested air box. So, I'm not sure what further mods would do with your stock ECU and leaning out your mixture. Maybe others will chime in. Also, we're talking 2v versus 4v, and I'm not sure what difference that will make.

There you go! That's what I'm talking about. $3k would put me right there for a nice track bike. I like the black paint application CJ put on his too.

The general consensus about cored cans/slip-ons is that you shouldn't have to adjust your A/F ratio.  But if you change the airbox you will need it.  Ducs are pretty lean from the factory.  You might experience some popping on decel and run hotter.

The key with full exhausts are the header pipes; that's where the the back pressure lies and coupled with high flow filters and unleash the rest of the motor's power.  The added air in the cylinders require more fuel which will affect your mpg.  My 848's mpg went down from almost 40 to on average 34 (sometimes i see as low as 28 mpg)

the open airbox will sound cool as hell, but you'll need a PC to fix the a/f mixture afterwards.  i cored my s2r, replaced the udder with midpipes, and opened the airbox and threw in a performance filter, and it popped like crazy, so i had to throw down $300 for a pc3, and another $200 for dyno.  and then there's the mileage thing.

you can't have performance and mileage, that is if you plan on boosting the HP considerably.  I'll take the twist of the throtle any day.  Still WAY better mileage than my truck  [thumbsup]
