New 1100, can I install Termis?

I have a new 1100 which I should be picking up shortly.  Right now, it is just stock.  I could call the dealer back and ask him to add a slip on Termi kit, or I could do it myself.  I'm not interested in the extra HP, just the better sound.

What is the best way to go?  Get it installed by the dealer or do it myself to save money?

Also, what other features should I be ordering on a new bike?

I just saw Swampduc's 696 with the Termi's...  Sounds amazing!  I can only imagine what the 1100 will sound like!

i;ve heard the 1100 with the full termi system. not just the slip ons... I JUMPED a foot back when it barked to life. and i have a 696 with CF slips on.

IF i had the 1100 and the funds.
1) Full Termi system CF
2) Short Tail Kit
3) Steering Damper
4) Ohlins Rear Shock (unless you have the S model already)
5) Touring Seat

not necessarily in that order since the touring seat is the most important in my opinion.

First, congrats! As Raux said, the full termis are freaky loud when you start it! If you're into making kids cry, giving reason for pigeons to revenge, getting dirty looks, & setting off cage alarms, I say go with the full termis and remove the db killers!

I am starting to wonder if it is too loud (if such a thing). I'm sure the ringing will eventually go away...along with my hearing?

I also agree, get the DP touring seat, too. It adds a bit more height, but I'm only 5'9" and I can still flat foot it.

Oh, to answer your question. If you're going to install the slip on cans, not hard at all. I installed the cans and ECU when I had my M696. Took around 3hrs because I'm lame. Others have done it faster. Save yourself the money and do it yourself. The ECU took most of the time because you have to take off around millions nuts.

Don't forget that a dealer will have to set the ECU up as well as the fueling

TPS will set itself with the new Siemens-made ECUs that Ducati is using(vs the previous Magnetti-Marelli). Dealer will still have to set the fuel trim with the special Ducati equipment.
One thing nobody has mentioned yet, the 2 year warranty that Ducati offers with the purchase of all DP parts will be null and void if not dealer-installed.

I will have the funds, but I'm not sure I'll notice much except the sound.  I'm an average rider, and this is my first Ducati.  I have a family and kids, so I do not want to set off car alarms or wake babies in the neighborhood.  I was thinking I would keep the db killers in.

Maybe I should ride it stock for a while, then get the kit.  At least I'd have something to compare it to.

If you have the funds, do it now. 

I cannot speak for the dealership you are buying from, but many will give substantial discounts on stuff bought at the same time as the bike.

There is truth on both sides.  Magnuson-Moss protects you only if the service, repair or modification did not cause the damage.  If there is damage from an overly rich or lean condition because trim was improperly adjusted you loose.  If the dealer did the installation and there is a dispute it would be the dealer and Ducati.  If you do the installation and Ducati disputes the claim the fight will be between you and Ducati.  Me, I would do a compromise.  I would do the install and let the dealer set the trim.

I believe there is a performance diff (at least there seems to be). Keep in mind, the louder it sounds, the faster it seems. Weird how we connect the two. I agree, get used to the bike stock first. You may just like it as is.

    Lame, you should return the m1100 and get a eletric scooter with a basket on the front. Full balls out or not at all!

Do it yourself.  It took me 1 hour to install the slip-ons, air filter, and ecu on my previous 696.  The entire process is very easy and straightforward.  No instructions needed.  And whats this about not wanting to make children cry or car alarms scream? termis shouldn't even come with db killers. haha.
