Nexx x30 maxiJet helmet first impressions

First i should say that ive only a bit of motorcycling experience, and this is my first helmet that actually fits
so i dont exactly have much to compare it to, but here are my first impressions of the helmet

although the nexx is not snell approved,  from webbikeworld.com
"The X30 meets ECE 22.05 safety standards as a full-face helmet.  The Nexx X30 sold in North America meets DOT standards."

so far i really like the nexx, it looks great i was at the motorcycle safety course today and even the instructor asked me where i got it.
its quiet, its very comfotable, its unique and the flip face and sunshield are both very nice features. The lack of a moving shield
is somewhat annoying but the defog vent works well at 15mph+. if i were commuting in the morning fog in stop and go traffic
i would definitely invest in a regular full face to round out the lineup, but stop and go with the whole face up is really fine, and its easy to lower once u pick up speed.

i also notice significantly less wind buffetting compared to the other two helmets i used to ride, which were both much too big for me. But i will point
out that during headchecks the wind force does not change suddenly causing me to flinch or get scared or w.e its just a constant pressure that moves smoothly
from the front of the helmet to the side, as i rotate my head. thumbsup for aerodynamics and noise suppression [thumbsup]

There are only two closing vents, the chin vent which blows air accross the faceshield, and one on top of the helmet that opens and closes
3 side by side vents. there are 2 extractors in the rear that are always open. i didnt get a good test on a hot day as it was pretty cold today (40s)

The shell shape is definitely different, it sort of wraps under your chin instead of a jutting chin bar. If it were in line with my chin it would hit as i talked
but it is lower than normal and doesnt interfere with anything. i actually was nervous about fitment but i am very pleased

One thing that makes me mad is that most of the nice metallic colors from europe are not available in the US and the "soft" color is some sort of coating, i already have a
small tear in the back of the helmet. no idea what its from, i have never dropped it and the shell has never touched the ground. must be road debris.

If nexx ever makes a x30 maxijet II with a flipping visor in addition to the package they already have, i would definitely pick one up in another color.

I rate it a 8/10 as a 2ndary helmet, but it may not meet all your needs if it is a primary helmet depending on the climate and type of riding you do.

i had to include a pic of it on me as i was not able to find a pic on a person before, sorry for crappy quality

those guitar hero guitars are not mine... i swear...

let me know if those pics dont work

Looks cool.  Where did you buy it from.  And how does the size compare to your previous helmets?  Thanks.

thanks, i got it from the only US source for nexx helmets, nexx-usa.com
it cost 350 including shipping.

As for size the other two helmets i had were large, but i measured my head as 55.xx cm and went with
the 55-56cm sized small. this is about normal for other brands i have tried on. although some helmets sm are too hard to get on.
i would agree with webbikeworld.com in estimating the head shape to be slightly round oval or neutral. i think my head is neutral to oval and it fits well
i was on the MSP course for 5 hrs with it, and a half hour or so before and after on highway and around town. no hot spots

The cheekpads seem to have less in some areas. maybe more room for the ear to breathe. different from my arai but still comfortable
one more thing: kinda hard to get my head in with earbuds in. i have big ears and they move around a lot when putting a helmet on so ymmv

also this helmet has the eurostyle clip instead of the d ring. i will never go back to D rings!

Did you take out the windshield for the first pic with you wearing it? It's surprisingly clear and the only flash reflection I can see is on the inner shade.

Wow... I wonder if you can use polarized glasses with that helmet. The curve of a helmet visor screws with polarized glasses and causes some things to jump out at you and messes up your vision. I wonder you'd get that problem with that lid.

its raining here today but in the next few days ill throw on some polarized shades and see what happens, and try with my arai to note the differences

ill report back

Cool thanks. I remember tar snakes (those tar patches used on cracks in the road) being particularly dangerous when I tried to wear polarized glasses. They really jump out at you. Kinda freaky.

Dude, they freaked the hell out of me when I left the optometrist and the first one jumped out at me! I almost swerved into a car!  :o The rest of the ride home was not fun. I couldn't understand what was causing it at first either.  [bang]

after a couple hundred miles, to update: the sun hasnt broken in central PA so no polarized runs yet

i have learned to crack the faceshield, leaving a gap at the chin hoop to force feed air onto the shield to defogg. if you want to hear just how great this helmet is at noise suppression, ride with the face open, then with the face cracked a hair, and then snap it shut. each increment is lightyears quieter. im also incredibly impressed with aeros. highway fright? not anymore. 80mph is no problem

Seems to work great, its bearable in stop go traffic and about perfect everywhere else. The visibility is slightly different at the edge, some may say its not as good as a regular helmet, i find it about the same UNTIL the shield is cracked, that forces the faceshield up slightly, impeding peripheral vision

So im sticking with 8/10 as a 2nd helmet. i looove it, it looks awesome, feels great, and i like the sunshield, ive even stopped noticing the line at the bottom (which admittedly is very annoying at first, especially the nose cutout) it loses one point for not having a flipping shield, and 1 point for losing visibility when the shield is cracked

the soft finish is too fragile. i learned what caused my slight tear. its where the helmet contacts my steering dampener when i hand the helmet off a barend mirror. ive now 2 rips 2mm long and 2mm apart, parrallel. im gonna get a ducati sticker to cover the area and protect the helmet from further dampener scrathes.

helmet is even the tits in the rain  [thumbsup] but im already searching for a new "primary helmet" for foggy days

Polarization is done from edge to edge, like very tiny stripes in the lens.  I found out the hard way that I had a polarized face on my car radio. The radio face was polarized 90 degrees off from my foster grants.  When I looked at the radio face with my sun glasses on, it was completely black.  If I cocked my head one way or another, I could start to see the radio.  For this reason, I probably wouldn't want both a faceshield and glasses that were polarized, even if they were aligned the same.

? Never heard of someone having a polarized face shield. I was trying to use polarized sun glasses with a normal visor. I was thinking that since the face shield on the Nexx doesn't look as curved as a normal visor it wouldn't interfere with the polarized glasses as much. My dad explained how polarized glasses work but I didn't totally understand it.

My ROOF Boxer V has a polarized tinted shield. It's fine without my glasses, but with them it amplifies the "effect"...
