Need a Helmet for my Wife

Hi All,

I want to probe your thoughts on what helmet to get my wife.  She'll ride about 25% of the time I do (not much).  I want something that is Snell approved, but not over $125.00.  Gloss black.  I've had her try a couple on for size and fit, so we have that part checked off the list.

Anyone have any good experience with a helmet that falls within these requirements?

Thanks!

Why Snell approved? In a few well respected tests, the Snell rated helmets tansfered more force to the head than the straight DOT approved helmets. That said, take a look at the Z1R line of helmets. Priced below your requirement and did well in the tests. I crash tested my Z1R Strike with great results, eg. no headache, helmet held up well, etc....

Hmm, I didn't know of that finding.  I should do more research on helmet testing.

Thanks for the tip!

I personally like SparX. DOT + ECE certified, <$100, and they fit my head like they were made for it.

I crash tested one last year. Then I boxed up the helmet with a copy of the police report and shipped it to them to take advantage of their "crashed helmet policy."

2 weeks later a new helmet showed up at my house. Fo' free.

I can't wait until Marquez gets on his level and makes Jorge trip on his tampon string.

the hjc cl-12 and fs-15 (think those nums are right)
are both cheap in solids

for a bit better (imo) helmet,
scorpion exo-400 and exo-700 are both under 150 in solids and "flowery" prints

you can also often find arai quantum lids on ebay for 100-200 in solids

Totally free.

For serious.

I had to pay to ship my crashed helmet to them. I didn't have to pay ANYTHING for the new one.

I put a note the box asking them to send me a different design. I had a Retro Classic and I wanted a Retro Corsa. Open the new box that showed up and they'd sent me a Retro Corsa!

If a Scorpion helmet fits her head and she likes the design, you really can't complain about getting her one for $60.

+1 on the EXO400, i have the exo700 (same shell but different shell and more vents), crashed it head went into a car door. Helmet is trashed though, everything inside shifted, so i guess it did its job?

btw that article is a really well written and informative read, especially the snell response. you should all print it out and read it when you get the chance.

If you want a cheap, good helmet that is Snell approved, I like my KBC Tarmac Radiation.  It's on sale for $50 at Motorcycle Superstore.

It was well-reviewed by WebBikeWorld.com as well.

Also, +1 above on the SparX.  They are a good company and their helmets are top-notch, especially at the price (Corsa's are $70 at Motorcycle Superstore.)

There's an interesting trend happening where more helmets are DOT and ECE rated rather than DOT and SNELL.

I've read a lot about the differences and (Chris) you're right - good advice at the start of this thread.  [thumbsup]

Gotta protect the egg shell!!!

(same shell but different shell )
I know what you mean, but for the sake of someone who doesnt know scorpion lids and finds that confusing

read: same shell shape but the exo-400 is POLYCARBONATE shell and the exo-700 is FIBERGLASS
