New or used?

I just bought a 2006 S2R1K with 3000 miles on it.  Speedymoto clutch cover, carbon rear hugger, CycleCat clipons, CRG mirrors, tail chop, full Termi system, airbox, ecu.  Bought it delivered (125 miles away) for $8450.

Then wrecked it 22 days after buying it. :-[

Bought a new old stock '07 S2R 1k about a month ago.

10k plus DMV.

Had to do some mods though, so out the door was a little higher.  [thumbsup]

If you have too much money I can get you one from here, Norway, at $31,000. That's retail, no mods - Norwegian tax style. [bang]

Bend over I'll drive!

It doesn't hurt so much after repeatedly assuming the position. The trick is to relax and kind of enjoy it?

Sounds like there are some deals out there!

...as long as your not buying in Norway!  ;)

How about used deals?

Also don't buy in Canada. I buy all of Ducati bikes from the US. The last S2R-1000DS was used for $8100 in TX with only 140miles on it  [laugh] Had it shipped to Canada for $900. That is 1000's cheaper then going thru local dealer.
BTW.... bought it on Craigslist. Loads of great deals to be found there. Most sellers will try to post there before going to corporate eBay with their high listing fees.

NOt to slam your deal, but can you explain a little further?

You say you paid $8100US for a very slighly used bike from Texas.  Changing CDN into US $ is at least 3-5%, even when the dollars are at par. The bank needs to make a little.
Then you paid another $900 for shipping was that US or CDN dollars.
Would have had to pay at least GST to get it across the border, if not any other duties.
That should put you in the $9500CDN range.

Your right paying full MSRP and freight and set up charges plus taxes is a joke and the higher MSRP for Canadian bikes than the list price in the U.S.

But if people are smart and buy in off season and last year models there are deals to be had.

There's are also something to be said for piece of mind buying from a reputable local dealer should there be problems with your new ride, and no hassles to arrange for shipping, borders documents etc.

Just a thought.

Right right. There is something to be said about piece of mind and no hassles with shipping and documents etc.
However: I bought this bike in middle of winter. So i had time wait. Even if i went to the local dealer and picked a S2R-1K for MSRP it's not like i could be riding it the next day with all the ice and snow in Canada? So why not wait out and save some $$$.

This was my 5th vehicle I have imported. I know what to do and what not to do. And the next Ducati I buy I'll be doing just that again.
Because of NAFTA(free trade) there are no duty between the 2 countries. At least not on used Motorcycles. Only GST. On used items the GST is calculated on what is listed on the Bill Of Sale...hint  hint. You get the seller to put down whatever you want with an "as is" statement with a much lower price thus you pay less GST.

After I got the signed title from seller i contacted Ducati and they transferred the remaining warranty under my name. So there is my piece of mind and my couple of $K's in the bank for later mods.
