It's not really mine (well, I suppose that I own part of it.)

It's only a single shot and sort of an antique but it still fires one badass round.

No one likes warning stamps on firearms but this one gets your attention.

I've heard that the paperwork process with registering handguns is a pain on the island. DRKWING or Teddy, any truth to this rumor I've heard?

in order to buy, I had to take the safety class, and once passed, find a pistol to buy, take my affidavit (for passing the class) and SN of intended purchase to police for background check, and once passed, purchase pistol and take it back to police station to finish reg.

importing, I have no idea.

needless to say, I haven't found the time to bother buying a pistol yet.

Did I ever tell you the story about the Zen master and the little boy?

If you are buying a gun in Hawaii, you gotta jump through some hoops... as Zzilla experienced.
If you already own one and move here it is really easy.
I flew over with a Glock 40 (checked baggage, labeled & locked box).
Then I took it to the Police Station  [leo], filled out some forms & payed a small fee. It took about ten minutes. [thumbsup]
I'm on the Big Island but I would think the law is statewide and doesn't vary island to island.

Which one you looking at?

I bought a Glock Model 22 back in 2001 and with less than 200 rounds, it jammed.

Trade it in for that USP-40 and decided I will never carry any other gun for my main self defense sidearm. That thing kicks ass.

I just picked up the .45 this past January from a friend.  [thumbsup]

Don't you have to carry now to make comments like "I will never carry another gun..."

where do you hide that tank?   What holster?    It shows zero wear.

Not a big fan of the HK's though I carry a MP5 in my patrol car. I dislike the pistols mag release but I think this is mainly a 1911 based prejudice.

Right now I have the following:

-Wilson Combat CQB 1911 w/tac rail: My favorite, but an agency move precludes me from carrying it on duty. Hopying that gets corrected soon.

-Glock 36: slimline CCW weapon: It works but doesn't "do anything" for me.

-Springfield Armory XD 45 4": Grip safety, holds 13 in the mag, no complaints other then the mags not dropping on demand 100% of the time. Current duty weapon.

-S&W 342 PD: 5 shot .38 caliber back up. Titanium cyclinder. Nice and light and easy to conceal. No complaints.

-S&W 686: stainless revolver, accepts .357 or 38+P rounds. Pull the trigger and it goes boom. Very accurate.

-Para Ordnace 7.45 LDA: no longer produced, just picked up from a guy that had one NIB in Montana. Para is swapping out the sights and installing a bobbed hammer. Then I am installing a magwell and some macarta grips. This will be my duty weapon until 1911's are approved since it's the closest I can get.

-Ruger .380 LCP: Buying one of these soon as an alternative to the 342.Ultra thin and compact, fits in the back pocket better then a wallet. Extra mag is tiny. And cheap, $300 or so OTD.

got a quesiton what is it with the glocks that everyone likes? sure they may work well, but the plasticy look really doesn't hold much "style" or craftsmanship to it.

the hk look a little bit nicer overall than a glock.

also what is the deal with the 1911 45 that you guys like? is it more for tradition?

Guns are tools. Looks aren't the main concern.

1911's? Reliable, accurate, durable, etc. Kind of hard to explain for those that don't "get" it. Sort of like explaining why a Ducati Monster as opposed to ______.

sbrguy

yes i understand they are tools and looks are not the main concern, but you have to admit that its part of the equation.  sure you put alot of thigns before looks but i'm sure that the manufacturers are taking into account that the gun has to "look" right along with the function of the gun itself in order for it to sell.  afterall there are many fine guns out there within the same price range, weight, etc.  that would you say it then comes down to the sort of "intangibles" liek brand loyalty and such?

so would you say the 1911s are popular bc of the "tradition" factor afterall they have been around for so long, the reliability like you say, etc, are well known so for something that may "have to work" you always fall back on the basics?

sorta like you mentioned the revolvers you have, though they are sorta dated in technology in a way you can always fall back on them bc the reliability is there.?

i have to say the titanium cyclinder on the one gun is pretty different, have they made entire pistols everything out of titanium yet?

do you see the materials like carbon fiber ever being used on the stressed parts in the future? not just for aesthtics?
