Ahhh... I'd just go old school and use a Rem 870 and 2.75" shells. Why mess with what works 24/7? ;)

you can modify the 870's feed ramp to take the 1.75 shells.  why mess with it?  you get 12 shells in a tube.   ;)

the modification doesn't stop you from using the 2.75 (or 3") shells.  so you can put 2 minishells in front of a magnum.  sort of a "knock knock BANG"

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

What's involved in the modification?

What's involved in the modification?

The elevator arms have to be bent some to keep the minishell from flipping.

With a longer shell, the elevator is nearly flat and the lenght of the shell keeps it from flipping in the loading bay.  By bending the elevator slightly UP (into the receiver) the minishell is wedged slightly and that keeps it from flipping.

the flip happens right after the slide is moved back (and ejection is complete) when the new shell is released from the tube.  if you look closely when working the slide you can see the new shell jumping some.

obviously not an issue on the ithacas and apparently not possible to modify them.

Finally got my open gun from Freedom Gunworks.  7.5gr of Vihtavuori N350 under a 124gr CMJ at 1400fps and the dot never leaves the lens  [thumbsup]

What's the point of the slots on the slide?

Coolness?  Weight reduction?

I like the grips.

Cooling. Lightweight. Faster slide. etc. The grips are cool. Nice looking open gun.
I plan to list the Federal Gov't. as a dependent on my next 1040 tax filing!

I have flying honey badgers and I'm not afraid to use them!

The fact that flame throwers exist is proof that someone somewhere said "I'd sure like to set those people over there on fire but I'm just not close enough to get the job done."

CONFIDENCE: the feeling you have right before you understand the situation.

Chambered in regular old 9x19.  The slots in the slide are mainly for weight reduction (lighter slide = less dot movement).  The reason for no 45s in open division is the magazine restrictions.  You are limited to 170mm of length.  I can get 29 rounds in a magazine, where as you might only get 18-20 with a 45.

That is a 5.4" Schuemann Ultimatch barrel.  I am loading the 9x19 at 1.165" with a Montana Gold 124 CMJ and a Federal small rifle primer.  My velocity will vary between 1390 and 1415 for a 172-175 power factor.  When loading 9-Major, you must throw all published load data out the window and cross your fingers.  I worked all of my major loads up SLOWLY with a chronograph.  I will sometimes start out using small pistol primers so I can tell when the pressure is getting high.  It looks like you poured that primer into the pocket.  With the small rifle, they have nice round edges and no flow  [thumbsup].  I still want to experiment with some HS6 and 115gr JHPs.  Now we are talking in the 1525fps range.

I haven't tried 3N37 yet, but I do have a pound.  I have a 3N38 load of 8.9gr with the same specs as my N350 load.  That was an absolute pregnant dog to get that bullet crushed down to 1.165  [bang]   The case was flush to the top with powder

Quote from: WarrenJ on May 03, 2012, 07:53:20 PM- primer must have hit the ejector or some other point causing it to detonate.

that is pretty odd, how thick is the ejector on that gun?  if the extractor is pulling correctly, it shouldn't have been open at any point to allow the ejector in.

hows the firing pin spring on that gun?

I have seen it happen on STI 2011s with long loaded .40 ammo.  It seems that all of the planets have to be in alignment for this to happen, but it IS possible
