Mine is a solid white one, so not the most exciting.  BUT instead of flowers for our first day the boyfriend got me a helmet.  It was funny to be asked "So, how many inches is your head?"  when I got asked out.

and it keeps your noggin in one piece too! wt:

Ain't that the truth!  When I was in X-ray school and working in the ER there was a biker dude that was in an accident with no helmet on and his skull x-ray looked like Humpty Dumpty after he fell.

Ladies, can I have your opinion.... is this too girly?? (bloke is asking)

Be blunt & honest...
I just don't know. I don't want it to say - "here you go little girl, you'll be all safe now" - said in patronising voice.
Its a "potential gift", for a certain someone... - Chris

ps, sorry for straying into the dark side  ;D

Resistance is futile...  [cheeky]

Really, it depends on the girl. For some, there is no such thing as "too" girly. I, on the other hand, am a bit of a tomboy (always have been), and I wouldn't be caught dead in something with purple flowers on it. My lid is a nice plain silver Shoei that fits sooooo well, and was a gift from my Sweetie Pie. He took me to the shop and said, OK pick one out!  :D (Yes, he's a keeper. I love guys who buy moto gear for their sweethearts...)

I'd try to get her opinion before actually making the purchase, or buy it somewhere where you can return or exchange it....

It's not condescending, just an individual thing, like trying to buy shoes for someone...

+1 on this. If you want it to be a surprise, then consider other things she owns.  That will at least be a big hint about her taste and whether she'd go for a helmet like that.

I'm not a lady, but...

My wife has the same helmet in pink. She wouldn't be caught dead with purple flowers. I don't think it's a "girliness" thing (would any guy complain that a helmet is "too blokey?") so much as a taste and personal preference thing. I like the "Lola" helmet better anyway.

Here's one way to look at it: if she gave you a helmet, would you wear it? In other words, do you know each other well enough to pick things like that and would the fact that it's a gift make it alright even if you wouldn't have picked it for yourself?

I know my wife pretty well - we've been married over 27 years. I don't think either of us would pick personal protective gear for the other despite a pretty high chance of getting it right.

Thanks duqette, Kyna, mstevens... great advice! [thumbsup]
Its for a friend who likes motorcycling, but has lots of borrowed/hand me down gear. I don't think she gives enough credit to gear as she's relatively new to bikes. The helmet she has is in good nick, but really old...
I gues I have the "does it fit issue", but I wan't her to be safe and a decent helmet is essential in my book. She's likes purple, I know that much. Perhaps Ill look at another gift or a gift voucher.
