So.....

After putting various bits and pieces back onto the bike, re-wiring the side stand switch and replacing a bulb, she passed ;D
Tassie plates here we come [thumbsup]
Oh, and the ride to the workshop was rather quiet - most unsettling - I hope that never has to happen again...

After a ride today with Bazz, my tail light has blown again. The brake light still works, it's just the filament for the tail that has gone. I realised when I got home, after dark :-\
I haven't been riding much lately because the weather has been so crap, but the bulb is only 3 days old. I must have a short somewhere or something.
Oh well, just another job, for when the weather turns to shit (this weekend) [roll]

Found on my DS (after blowing around 3 globes  [roll] ) that the globe wasnt a tight fit in the socket and it was moving around, probably enough to shake the lit filament and cause it to break. ??? (Maybe on and off earthing?? )

Gave the socket a bit of a squeeze with a pair of multi grips and havent had a problem since! [thumbsup]

Thanks Dragonworld, I adjusted the contacts a little, and now everything seems fine.  :)

While I was "re-disabling" the side stand switch, I thought I would add in the diode to the neutral switch.
After some very dodgy soldering, and a burnt finger, everything was all wired up and ready to go. A quick test with the bike up on the rear stand, and everything's sweet. Until the test ride.

It works as it should, ie. starts with stand down in neutral only, and cuts off if put in gear. But the neutral light stays on all the time.
With the engine running, the neutral light is on all the time regardless of gear.
With engine stopped, the light is on in neutral and all gears except first. Weird ???

Could I have spliced into the wrong wire at the side stand switch end?
Or put the diode in backwards?
