So we went to Metallica tonight.  Sweet show.

After leaving the parking garage on the monster we drive a bit down the road and there is a man who is clearly drunk or on something standing in the middle of the road, arms outstretched, staring at the suburban next to me and of course myself.  He's screaming "why don't you hit me you stupid make the beast with two backss."  So we sit there, he moves closer to the curb and I begin to go around.  He then jumps back into the road and pushes me and I damn near dump my bike with Tara riding pillion on the back.  How I managed to hold up the bike and our weight I have no idea.  After that I'm dumbfounded tbh.  He then says I need to get off the bike and he's going to cut my make the beast with two backsing throat and proceeds to spit on us.  I'm in shock.  He has a buddy yelling for me to just gas it and get the hell out of there, so it seems that's a pretty good idea and we do.  A block down, I decide to bust a U-turn and flag down a cop.  So I get to a few cops running traffic duty for the event and explain what just happened.  They won't do a damn thing!?  The cop tells me that he's working for American Airlines Center and he can't do anything for me?  WTF?  Why exactly are the cops there if they are not going to take care of patrons leaving the event?  He wants me to call 911 and wait on a squad car.  I told him the dude will be gone by that time, so I just said make the beast with two backs it and went home.

These are the times I really wish I carried a handgun you know?  Some scum out there really has no business living. I think I did the right and smart thing to not retaliate.  Who knows what weapons or whatever that guy had.  No reason to get killed over some drunk idiot, but it was embarassing and I'm miffed as to why our city officers had no interest in helping whatsoever.

Holy ^&#$%  :o  You were lucky and totally right to get the hell out without smackin' the guy.  The dipshit could've totally snapped...

But then what-the-hell, Cops?!  Very weird; "Hmmm, direct traffic or go bust a rabid maniac...?"

Very scary.  Glad you're O.K. though  :-[

So, yesterday afternoon around 5:15 the wife and I are going home. We stop at a light between the two West End stations. My wife says to me to look at what is going on beside our Jeep! Now, I'm not at all a racist but on the surface this is what I saw. I look to see two rather LARGE black women having a total knock down drag out type of street brawl! It's like New Orleans all over again I'm thinking and am looking for a quick exit before stuff start flying through the air. Before the light can change I see this one black guy about 6'-4" just totally duke one of the ladies in the face !!! He's laughing and she's staggering around. The cops finally show up after about 40 black people start congregating around the fighters egging them on!! WTF !!

We live in very violent times people. There is no more common civility. Yes, get your CHL.

glad you were able to keep the bike and your girl off the pavement, dude... that's impressive.  and i'm also glad to hear you exercised restraint; i know it must have been crazy hard to not want to have pummeled him after having disrespected you, your girl, and your bike like that.  i hear what you're saying about wanting to have a gun for situations like that, but you did the right thing and just left; there was no real threat to you and a gun wouldn't have helped at all.  i've had my chl for several months now, and have yet to carry.  in fact i didn't even put in my holster order until like a month ago... but even when it arrives i'm not sure when i'll actually start carrying.  i just want to be sure that i'm 100% prepared mentally for having such a huge liability strapped to my back...because in your situation i can't say i would have just driven away; i'm 90% sure i would have, but 10% sure i would have beat his make the beast with two backsing face into the ground.

anyway, sorry for the tangent.  can't believe those "road guards" wouldn't help you out....one would think that's exactly why they're out there.

First of all: what's a "beast with two backsing"?
Second: Rich is right. Having a gun on you puts you in more danger than you think. Especially if you have a CHL - you can't even smell a beer when you carry, and if you ever shoot someone (in a life-threatening situation) you must "shoot to kill" (actual CHL instructor's quote) to avoid lawsuits from aggressor. Even then you still have a chance to be sued by the aggressor's family (various reasons). My lawyer says that in the best-case scenario, you are looking at around $20,000.00 in court-related costs.
Now, you can still carry a gun on you in your vehicle (not sure about motorcycle) according to a "Castle Law" as of last September, I believe. It's the same thing as having a gun in your home - to protect yourself and your personal property. And you don't have to retreat anymore - but I strongly suggest that you do (if possible).
I'm glad you are OK, very lucky. Now let's hope your GF doesn't think that you are puss :o

That's the forum's censoring filter. Turn it off in your profile settings. Look for "Look and Layout Preferences", and check the box "Leave words uncensored."

personally I think everyone needs their ass beat just once in life.  Glad to hear you stayed cool under pressure because like Rich I don't think I would have but my numbers are 90% likely instead.  I got run off the road once on my scoot and when we caught up to the guy...........well, we should have let it go but we didn't.  He got his that day and hopefully soon that guy that did that to you will have the same done to him.

having the CHL puts TONS more responsibility in your hands and often you're the bad guy for some reason.  next time I hope you're accompanied with peeps so that guy can get his lesson.

The cop may have been working a uniformed off duty second job. Who knows if he was actually on the DPD clock. Still, I agree, how f#@king aggravating to have him just blow you off like that. Even if he was not in a position to personally respond last time I checked they had radios! A simple call in to HQ or whoever was in charge of the AAC detail would have been nice. [bang]

I've had my chl since they first came out and carried in my car before it was ever legal. Rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6 kinda deal. There have been a hundred times I was glad I wasn't carrying. Some people exist in this world just to take up space and breath up valuable air and the only reason they are alive is because it's apparently against the law to kill them. I think your little friend last night was one of them. Like Rich said, having a chl is a HUGE responsibility. Cooler heads always have to prevail. I have not been to one renewal class yet that I didn't think that half the class shouldn't own a gun. Either they were awful shots on the range (gee, how would they shoot under stress?) or complete dumbasses... or both. Scary stuff. It's amazing that bad things don't happen daily to chl holders. Thankfully they don't. [thumbsup]

Sorry about your troubles Jacob. Just glad nothing nasty happened and you both got home safely. Totally pissed off but safe. Who knows about that cop? Just wonder how much more trouble and mayhem that asshole caused to other folks leaving the AAC. Hopefully he's in jail or someone else took him out. ;D

Some good points there. I always told students in my classes that "you keep shooting until they stop doing whatever it was that made you want to shoot them in the first place". Telling students to shoot to kill or "warning shot" BS is just bad advice. It's always best to leave if you can and not have to shoot at all. Again, cooler heads always win. The post shooting hassles are tremendous and no fun. Plus you loose your gun as evidence. If you have a favorite carry gun go buy a second one!

Too much risk, in my book.  While it's irritating and frustrating, exercising restraint is always the best policy, unless you just can't because you are in danger.

Most of us here have at least decent jobs, and great families.  It's just not worth throwing away over someone who is drunk, on drugs, crazy, or some combo of the those items.  Also, you truly have no idea what the situation is with this person, so assuming he needs a beating may simply be incorrect.  If you can leave safely, you are better off leaving.

I lost my temper a few times and engaged when I shouldn't have.  The time I gave in to it, I ended up in a squad car in handcuffs, although I was not the aggressor in the situation.  Charges were dropped when the guys girlfriend rolled on him, but for me I felt worse.  It turns out the guy was bipolar, and had just lost his mother and sister to a drunk driver.  He was clearly in the wrong in taking it out on me and the stranger I stood up for, but I could have and should have diffused the situation and walked away.  I consider myself smarter than that, and feel that I did not have the right to assume that "he needed a beating".

just my 2 cents, I realize many will disagree.

More excellent advice. [thumbsup] People who are that f#@ked up should just be avoided. It's unfortunate that there are SO MANY of them!! It's like bad/dangerous drivers. As much as I want to blow a hole through their engine block I will go out of my way to slow down, change lanes, exit, catch the red light on purpose, etc. just to have them out of my life. I've been to Baylor Rehab Hospital before... it's not as much fun as it sounds. And neither is being hand cuffed in a squad car. :P Even if you are in the right.

I would never encourage anyone to engage in violence. Never. No one ever wins when that occurs. We are a civilized country. I wish people would act like responsible citizens and control their anger and actions more. Education helps that process.

A gun carried legally by a law abiding citizens as the last means of defense in a life-threatening situation is the last choice someone should choose with such situation. In the man in road incident, he was not actually threatening you physically with a knife or club it seems. Therefore you absolutely did the right thing in leaving. You won. He's a looser. Be satisfied with that.

To adress the topic of this thread first start by diagnosing the country's apetite for violence. It's quite easy to see. As far as America is concerned our family values have changed drastically. In short, America after the formation of our governement was centered upon industrializing our country. We had a purpose and a job to do. Just maybe we had enough of violence during WWII and again had a job to do insomuch as returning to family values. Prosperity was desired and needed to support the family. Prosperity gained and greed takes over for some. Families disentegrate with increased divorce rates. Fast forward to today...we now spend millions on 'games' that show us it's fun to be a wayward soul or monster or gangster and that every 'game' we sell to our kids shows our kids the important thing is only about killing the opponent and how to do it better and faster than anyone else. This is one of the sole reasons we see the blatant disregard of human life on our streets these days. Only in real life you can't push the restart button. I for one have gotten rid of all violent games in my house. The only games i have are skill games...like riding motorcycles!

Good thread I got going here.   ;)

Excellent advice by all of course.  I don't think I could ever pull a gun on anyone unless I was truly backed into a corner, but the thought arises from time to time when you run across a total douchbag.  Action is a different story.

The concert was great at least!  They played some new stuff, but pulled out all the old hits for the crowd and the fire/laser shows throughout the concert were rockin'.  I hadn't seen Metallica in around 13 years I think?  Whenever they last performed with Pantera at Smirnoff about when I was graduating high school/early college.  I'm not sure what year exactly, but they still perform wonderfully and we had a lot of cool people sitting with us.  We missed most of the opening act, but really only went for Metallica anyway.   [drink]

You got me beat--last time for me was in the late 80's at the Cotton Bowl (Monsters of Rock Tour)....  :P

Metallic what? I take it that's a rock and roll type of entertainment show? It sounds that way by the way you youths are talking.  [laugh]
