I didn't make the comparison YET..........haven't ridden the ST or the new Honda scoot.  Simply saying if it's anything like Honda puts out it will be a killer and at a killer price.

Would it sound absurd if I could compare an '04 ST4s to an '010 Honda heavy-assed sudo-touring/sport thing? I'm guessing my Duc would give it good go.

"010 Honda heavy-assed sudo-touring/sport thing?"

no such thing as an 010....................it's simply a 10.  too much cool aid for you and YEAH compare away.  Ducs are light as hell but bikes like the K1200 and such are in a different category.  I love me some Ducs and want one of each but the ST never took off on the sport touring market like most have.  Then again Ducati only sells what 30,000 bikes a year?

after riding the multi 1100S, i can't imagine a better touring bike. it was a breeze to ride. add some heated hand grips and a stereo system, and send me back to vegas (with cash please)

muskrat

I'd love to know what type of heated grips it had.

you cant compare the ST with a VFR1200.... ST is closer to VFR800 and i doubt you can do two up for 1000miles on a st4 and not feel cramped afterwards...

ST is more sports while VFR12 is more Touring that sport... Shaft drive too.. so minimal maintance for long trips...

It will be interesting to see how Honda deals with the heat from a bigger motor - the VFR800 & ST1300 were horrible for Texas riding - they made the old style FJR seem airconditioned.
Here's my take on sport touring - if you want a long hauler you will need some weight on it for comfort but not HD tonnage - a minimum 200 mile per tank capacity (if you have to any slab riding to get to twisties it is mucho appreciated) - shaft + is low maintenence but (-) on response/feel - I'd rather have a chain. If you are doing 2-up then the 1200cc and up is nice - for one person then 1000 is perfect. The trade-offs start when you try to come up with something that handles like a sport bike (less weight) yet won't wear you out on long hauls. If someone could come up with a litre size chain driven 500-550# wet sport tourer that doesn't look like s*#t without bags, doesn't roast you and that has at least a 10K maintence schedule then I'd be interested. Just my opinion of course.
