issues with the legal market: Recent graduates and future graduates are competing against the 'talent' that the big firms laid off when finances ran dry for very little legal work, and the average salary is dropping (starting salaries are looking like they'll be below what I could make as an engineer). YIKES. This is not what I bargained for when I undertook this 'adventure'.

Have you crossed checked the ME world lately?  I would guess that the same has happened there too. 

So now, as I read briefs and do research for one of the Justices at the Court of Appeals, I find myself missing drafting, doing math, figuring out the pressure losses in piping, how far out the elephant could walk down a plank before breaking it, etc.

Haha, indeed. This is why I'm going to learn a few new tricks this winter: Making carbon fiber pieces and wire-soldering

Job? What's a job? I gave up looking a while back. At least you all have a marketable skill. Me? I worked at the criminal courthouse for years arguing with attorneys (DAs and Defense!) and listening to defendants lie to me all day long... or was that the attorneys lying? Hard to tell. What's there to market?

Sounds like a career in dispute resolution to me...   lots of years of experience...

Been an RN for 15 years.  I can do it for as long as I want. Job security is guaranteed, but highly overrated, IMHO. Zzzzzzzz.....

If I had it to do over again, I would have kept at working for a motorcycle shop in the daytime, and playing in bands at night. But I settled for a square gig instead.

Find your passion, and stick to it.

This may sound a little antisocial, but no one I've ever met could take the place in my heart of the '69 Ducati Scrambler or the '66 Gibson ES-335 I had back in the day.

I too graduated with honors in BS (bullshit)!!!!!!!  can I play too?

I have some contacts in the engineering field but they are mostly related to heavy industry like Power Generation, Oil & Gas, Gas Turbines, Generators etc.
It's not really what you WANT to do but everyone does seem to like having their lights on a fuel to run in their vehicles!
