You want an adventure or not?  If all you want is a mamsy-pamsy cruise down mammary lane (yeah, I said mammary)...I don't know what to tell you.  If you want adventure, and stories to tell your grandkids...ya gotta take chances.     ;D

Okay, so the solution to avoiding one of the three accidents on the road to Tortilla Flat is to take a much longer and twistier one-lane road that's on the edge of a steep canyon and is nothing but uneven, loose gravel while riding on street tires?

Maybe you and monsterdave can trailer your bikes out that way you don't have to worry about the dangers of motorcycling.

I plan on doing this ride with crutches strapped to my back if I have to.

- Your tires are going to get completely chewed up
- If you're not in front, then you'll be riding in a cloud of dust the entire way
- It's a one-lane road that you have to share with retards pulling boats

I like that road, but not for a street bike.

This is my favorite lookout point.

One of my favorite bridges is at Roosevelt. Did you know that it's actually longer than the Glen Canyon Bridge? It's just no where near at high.

Back when I organized group drives with BMW nerds. This was on the way back from Woods Canyon Lake (near Payson). The M3 guys were fun to drive with. We averaged 120 mph the entire trip.

I've done the dirt road on my bike, no problem.  Saw a whole group of Harley riders about half way through too.  It's a bit dusty, but maybe we'll get enough rains to keep the dust down? :)

OK, enough threadjacking Nate's thread (sorry!).  I guess keep an eye out for possible New Years Day rides and meet up places and maybe we can all get together.

Michael

So what are the details of the two rides?

haha.....we'll good luck with the crutches!!

Any comments that I make on this thread are moot anyway since we'll be in Cabo for New Years basking in the sun, swimming with dolphins, and drinking Tequila with Sammy Hagar.

Well, that might sound like it's more fun, but ... I'm sure it won't be ... Aw ... who am I kidding. That sounds awesome.

Well, for us sober, land-locked folk, the Winkleman ride sounds awesome, too. I've never been, so I don't mind going slow with a crowd.

And I think I'll dedicate my ride to the recent invention of PAVED ROADS!  [roll]

Thank you Michael!!  You are enabling my laziness!!!  [thumbsup]

Yes meet at 9 @ Goldbar and figure leave around 9:30-10ish

9:00am at Goldbar

One week from tomorrow!!!

Sounds like a good group is going.

I'd like to take this moment to try and persuade all to join us. It will be a lot more fun than Apache Trail. You know the traffic will suck after you get to Tortilla Flat. It'll be mad crowded, you'll be in 1st gear the whole way stuck behind some Harley first-time-riding-ever group.

I submit that an Apache Trail ride can be organized for the following Saturday or even the Saturday after that ... or the Saturday after that ... or the Valentine's Day after that ... or the St. Patrick's Day after that ... or the Easter after that ... or on Mother's Day (it'll make Mom so happy).

Anywho ... Winkleman, Winkleman, Winkleman. It's easier to copy and paste than it is to say 3 times fast.

Sorry Michael - (and Nate), but Tortilla Flat New Years Day ride is a TRADITION!  WE know it's a parade lap.  But there are literaly hundreds of bikes in and out all day, many many vintage and unique bikes that you won't see around, especially at TTF.  They come out of the woodwork for the official "first ride of the year".  For moto nuts, it's must see.  There's no other choice.  :)

I'm still trying to figure out how to make both rides!  Will start a new thread in a couple days for an alternate or addition to this ride that will end up at TTF.
