Back to Aftermarket parts thread - the Streetfighter Carbon Fiber oversized intakes (Ducati Performance)

They have a set of these at AMS and I want to see 'em installed on somebody's streetfighter. Problem is, I don't know anyone with a streetfighter. Somebody, get out your checkbook... They look nice in person, and I've been told that they don't make it look as Buell-ish as I originally thought.

I bet it costs as much as the bike it goes on.   [roll]

There used to be a methed-up redneck who turned out some of the nicest Ti frames and exhaust systems for Ducatis...
Then one day Doug Cook decided to disappear with a bunch of folks money.
It's a shame.
His prices were VERY reasonable.
He had a great following.
Now if he reappeared he'd be shot.

...I'd chain him to a TIG welder, a tube notcher, and a frame jig.

A pic and a link to some of his work:

Those arc-fab bikes were nuts.

That ti-frame may only save 8 lbs, but when you are looking for the last remaining few, its a good place to lose "a lot". Replacing all steel bolts with Ti will also drop about 5, depending on your bike model. carbon/kevlar braided lines instead of stainless for oil and brake will also shave a little weight. aluminum or magnesium front fairing subframe on superbikes is another spot [thumbsup]

LT Snyder likes those for track bikes, dry clutches needing all the cooling they can get. If wet riding is in your plans, he says stick with a solid clutch cover. Either that, or get aluminum basket, clutch plates, and spring cups, billet pressure plate and stainless springs, which will cost you about a grand.

I think LT's reasoning is sound.

If you aren't regularly riding in the rain, I say go for it. If you have the plates spinning, bike warm, the tossup into the clutch - especially on your faired biked - would be minimal and would evaporate or get spun out quickly. The DP kits are magnesium, Speedymoto has a billet aluminum one, and then there's lots of companies that can "corse-slot" your stock cast aluminum part. I have also seen both the full slots (U shaped) and round-edged "boxes" cut into it. Not as much venting there, but it was still nice looking.
