I've been getting about 95-100 miles on a tank before my light goes on and then not much after that I'll run out.  I've been reading and hearing I should get about 120 out of a tank.  I didn't think I was riding like THAT much of a hooligan.  Any experiences?

I feel your pain man. We must've got the special edition "gas guzzler 800's"

I used to get 130km before the light came on. Around 12 liters. (around 25.5 mpg).
After 10000km on the bike though, for some reason, I have been getting 160-170 kms (100 miles) on 12 liters. (32.3mpg)  ???

I don't know why. I didn't do anything special to the bike. It was about 200k after my last oil change.

One thing you should check though is make sure your fuel light is coming on at the right time.
As soon as your light comes on - fill up the tank and see how many gallons / liters it takes. Then check that with the owners manual.  [thumbsup]

-Edit: last night I got 185km out of 11 liters (a new personal record).

Mileage also depends greatly on how you ride.  on my 800 I was getting about 40 miles/gallon before upgrading my front fork springs and rear shock.  Now that I have more faith in the suspension, I'll get 25-30 miles/gallon and more enjoyment on straight roads and on-ramps.

I get 45 mpg, on my 2005 S2R 800.....

It really depends on whether you're doing city or highway riding. By city I mean cruising around town, to and from work, school, evening rides what have you. I get about 105 miles before the light comes on.

One tank I did pretty much all highway and cruising roads without traffic lights or stop signs and pushed it out to about 150 - 160 miles on that tank.

Getting about 110 / 3 gal at 89 octane on a 03 M800 ie ....

I started a thread "Gas Milage .... simple poll & question" which you may have read; put your 2 cents in and add to the pole; it intresting to read the different things that affect milage ...

I was running a really rich power commander map and was getting - for a mile 80 - 85 per tank. Switched to a different canned map and it pushed to 105ish. I'm happy with about 40mpg, but for a bike twins are really a gas guzzler. I might mess a bit more with the fuel injection and lean it out a bit more but I havent had the time.

For some reason, the bike runs really rich at low RPM's stock. Once you get above 5k on the tach it seems to run more evenly. I'm currently running the racing exhaust with stock airbox map from the PC site (slightly modified).

Here's a simple analogy.

Imaging you are riding a bicycle. More specifically a 21 speed mountain bike
Now image you are in the highest gear possible. Largest sprocket in the front and smallest in the back. Have you ever tried going up hill in that gear? If you haven't that pain in your knees is analagous to how your connecting rods "feel" when the engine is being lugged.

stopintime

35-55 mpg for me. Termi slip ons, DP ECU, open air box. Spirited twisties = 55. Around town and such = 35.
My light comes on after using 11 liters / 3 left. Gas is $ 2,50 here now  [puke] All worth it because I'm on a Ducati  [thumbsup]

I've got the same setup as stopintime and I'm getting about 120 in town using 89 octane. Not sure what I'm pulling out in the country yet.  [moto]

The most i have been able to pull is 130 miles out of a tank (stock gearing and stock exhaust minus the cans) that was riding fairly easy and maintaing freeway speeds the whole time, with this setup running around i would get 110 miles to a tank.  Recently I cut apart the bladder/cow udder (took out the cat and baffle inside) on my bike and changed the front sprocket to a 14 tooth now i get about 33-35 mpg (90 to 95 miles) pretty consistently running 92 octane.

My 07 S2R 800 was very average when I first bought it, 120kms from a tank, Then when it had it's first service  in late Decemeber last year (About 3 - 4 weeks after I picked it up) The Mechanic advised he had changed the fuel map and I should now get a bit more power but better fuel economy, sure enough running BP ultimate I now get on average 175 to 185 as the light comes on.

Qfactor

I get a very repetitive 135-140mi per tank, between commute, holiganism and city cruising.

I get 47 mpg just about every time I fill up.  My best was 49, but only once.

2005 S2R black.  I get about 40MPG if going around 70MPH on the freeway.  A little better if I can keep the speed down lower than that in moderate traffic.  Still fly past cars on the street and on ramps and get better milage than 95% of them.  Not bad. [thumbsup]
