Where have you found your candidates?  Craigslist?  Monster?

From the resumes and phone interviews, I think they all came from methadone clinics.  Instead of looking for senior devs, I'm going to look for 2 junior devs.  Not sure my luck will be any better.

No good stories, but one guy did try to convince me that his raging anti-social behavior would be a benefit.  He didn't get a call back.

Hahaha... I've had the same experience interviewing "engineers" we've found through craigslist ads.  I'm a mid level software engineer at the company I work for.

Actually, we did find a couple good ones, but it didn't work out because they wanted like 200k per year....

[Insert shameless plug]

All reasons why a technical recruiter is invaluable.  They get paid only if there is a placement....with a 90 day quarantee.

They weed out the $200k Crack smoking, anti-social, methadone junkies that wont look past the tips of their shoes when talking to you.  How valuable is all the time you wasted weeding through these people compared to paying a fee to have someone present you with 2-5 qualified applicants.

Most recruiters charge 25-30% of the first years salary.  My wife charges 15%.  The DMF Special!

Very true rgramjet, we used a technical recruiter to hire a few QA engineers and got very good results... Ended up hiring one of the best QA engineers we've ever had.

Oh I get it.  But we're not looking for employees because we'd have to offer benefits like health care.  I'm basically the CTO/Director of Engineering and I'm not even an employee.  I've talked to my boss about using your spousal unit, but I'm not sure how it breaks down with the commission.

Have her send me a PM if she's interested in talking with me about it.
