Yep, safe and sound  [thumbsup]  I had a great time!  Unbelievebly awesome ride weekend; wish more people could have gone because the roads we were on are honestly second to none.

Will's GPS and iphone weather saved the day yesterday though.  We had a predetermined 325 mile figure-eight kind of loop as a route but as we got to the farthest point on our loop it was only noon so we decided to improvise another couple of hours north and east using the gps.  Worked out really well.

I'd say 90% of the roads we were on were secondary roads so we seldeom, if ever, saw any significant traffic of any kind.  No shit; Memorial Day Weekend and every other motorized entity was curiously no where to be found... Now if I only knew where we were  [laugh]  Thank god for GPS.

We even ended up on the Pig Trail too.  Neat road with some traffic but not enough to ruin your day.

Also avoided some rain initially using the iphone but got swamped a little later as the storm grew.  I look  it as good practice... Yeah, right.  Maybe  [laugh]  [bang]

Bottomline is there are some really spectacular roads five hours from D/FW.  And as many times as I've been to Arkansas, it seems like I never ride the same roads twice.  VERY awesome weekend!  And did I mention the high for yesterday was 84?  ;D

Great to hear! As I said before I am glad I was wrong. Glad you guys had a good time. So you got rained on, is that right? Hope it didn't last too long. Was afraid you'd hit the rain in SE OK earlier today. It was a big storm!

Wow, 84 for a high?? Hell, it felt like 184 here yesterday. I'm just not ready for the "scorchers" yet. :P

Maybe I'll be up for a repeat performance this fall. I love riding up there!! [thumbsup] [moto]

I got hailed on one time.  Worth it though!
Repeat this fall maybe?

Here's a link to the routes we took:

We decided to jet back the same way we went up so there's only the one route getting to and from.

Though there wasn't a boring road up there, I highlighted the sections that were my favorites and one section that wasn't so good (the auto-routing function of the gps has it's downfalls too).

Seriously squiggly roads.  Great little road trip, glad y'all had a good time.  [thumbsup]

Good pics, good times  [thumbsup]  It seems like that improvisd route north of I40 just kept getting better and better; every time you'd turn onto a differrent road it was like, "Are you kidding me?!"  Twisty, empty roads with hills and green valleys as far as you could see!  Favorite would have to have been hwy 16 towards Tilly (a purple section on our route map) - 37 minutes of twisty goodness with no one on it  8)  In fact, after doing this trip I have to wonder why 80 % of those roads are even there; no one uses them... weird but cool, of course  [evil]

Well hell... the trip was not without incident.  After removing all the bodywork last night, then going over it this morning with a fine tooth comb, it would appear she's up to her old tricks once again; fractured subframe.  Clean through  :'(

So,  I'm officially on the look out for a flawless 2003-2004 999 mono subframe  [bang]

Is that the correct bit?

Yep, that's it.  Thanks for the post.  I've bought lots of carbon fiber bits and a few billet odds-n-ends from them before and they're good to work with.  I'll send 'em an email with a question or two before I follow through though.

Ha!  I vaguely remember somewhere along the Sunday ride hearing a loud, hollow "ping" kind of sound - kind of like when you run over a rock and it shoots out from underneath the tire - and thought I may have punctured the rear tire but I bet it was the subframe letting go...
