I was thinking Stoner could have been applying a little more pressure to the Ben so he'd have to defend instead of attack, but I'm just glad both Ducatis finished this one.

and now we start going to tracks he knows.


that said, did feel bad for nicky.  i mean, not too bad.. but kinda bad.

Casey and Nicky finally both finish a race without falling down but what's up w, de Puinet.....he used to ALWAYS fall down ?

Yeah, I'll join in and say Ben Spies make the beast with two backs Yeah!

Hate to be a downer but hypothetically - if Rossi was there, Pedrosa didn't crash day before, Stoner didn't choke the start = Spies 6th. Or even 7th, but he won the battle with Hayden. Meaning, he's still on this season's average.

I had the same thought. Sure, it's racing and stuff happens, but I'm sure Ben won't be satisfied until he podiums against all the aliens in their peak form.

that's kinda like saying that nicky asterisks 2006 for himself.  people crash all the time.  rossi goes from 7x mugello to not winning to badly hurting himself; jorge punts himself off the bike 5 times, considers retiring, then figures it out; pedro wins by 7 seconds or gets 6th; simoncelli can't ride that honda out of a paper bag but he can ride the aprilia like he stole it.. only now he's starting to find his way on the honda; suddenly stoner crashes all the time again and nicky is out-qualifying him.  it's all racing.  it's only one race but 3rd is 3rd.

I 100% agree with you that it's racing, but...

let's be fair: nicky won in 2006 b/c valentino lost, not b/c nicky won. 

Seems that some people put an astericks by Nicky's championship...just like they will by Ben's 1st podium.

yeah yeah... nicky won vale's lost championship in 2006. stoner's 2007 championship was won when he was the only decent bike not on michelins.

fwiw, ben's first ama superbike win occurred when mladin crashed out. doesn't really change the fact that he eventually ground out three championships in a row over the old guy.

i do, in a sense.  but i'm sure that nicky doesn't.  i still think he deserved it b/c he had 9 podiums that year, survived estoril, and was there to pick up the pieces when valentino threw it away.  he put himself in the position to be that close, no arguing that.

yup.  that's why i said it's only one race.  i don't think he's about to start winning races or anything.. but he does keep proving me wrong.  =)

CS: No, the bike jumped and shuddered and shook, and it sounded like the bike basically exploded off the start, nearly stalled the thing and just started going horribly, and managed to keep it going. Got into the first turn and got shoved around and pushed around, and really spat out the back door.

I'm a little disappointed, because it would have been an easy second, maybe even battle with Jorge for the win, but I would have had to push for that.

All he needed say was "We had a technical issue with the bike at the start, and one that came up again througout the race.  <then describe what the bike was doing and when it did it>"   That sounds soooo much better than "ask my technician, it wasn't my fault."
