Spent a little time this morning looking at 9mm carbines that aren't hi-point.

Anyone know anything about the Beretta CX4 storm?

Seems better made than the hi-point rifle and uses the mags from the 92.

Isn't anything better that a Hi-Point?

Probably. There are a lot of them out there with happy owners though.

You know better than to buy just a price...

it has to have value...

a deal as it were. ;D

The quality is what has me looking at the Beretta

As far as progressive reloaders go, I'd probably stick with Dillon.  Their equipment is probably the best thought out and their customer service is pretty good.  I have a 650 and a Square Deal B.  The 650 is a great press, but it is complex and requires some finesse.  You cannot expect to bolt it down and start loading 1000 rnds per hour with it.  Once you understand it though, its a pretty fine machine.  Mine has loaded and processed hundreds of thousands of rounds of ammo.  Currently I'm using it to trim 4000 LC 308 brass using the power case trimmer - just finished loading 3000 rnds of 45 ACP on it.

The 650 is probably the most versatile of the high speed progressive machines.  It can load everything from 32 ACP to 300 Win etc.  Changeovers are time consuming and require a pretty good attention to detail especially if switching between large and small primer sizes.  You need to have a good volume of reloading to do of a specific load to make the setup worth while - if you just need to load 100 of something or another it probably isn't the best press but if you need to crank out several thousand of something, it works pretty good.  When I was shooting Second Chance and IPSC back in the day, I left it set up for 45 ACP as my wife and I were burning 1000+ per month - that press has went through mountains of Unique and HG68's.  Counting shotgun presses, there are 9 set up in the reloading room right now.

How's the change over on the sdb?

I saw some vids on youtube of a 650 with auto case feeder and fell in love. I load everything now on a single stage.

I have never changed the SDB.  I picked it up used set up in 9mm and I just have it dedicated for that.  It works pretty well for what it is but it is not nearly the press that the 650 is.

Im really starting to get into 9mm. If i add a progressive press id mainly be looking for volume to make it easier to shoot more.

I've shot the Beretta Storm Carbine in 45 ACP and was quite impressed.  It's handy, and suprisingly accurate for a pistol caliber carbine.  The only downside of the 45's is the 8 round mags.  The 9mm using the high cap Beretta mags would be a nice rig.  50X the gun the Highpoint is IMHO.

If you could find a used 1050 Dillon....  That is an awesome pistol caliber, high volume reloader.  Another one that can pop up once in a while on the used market is a Star progressive reloader.  They have been out of production for some time, but are incredibly well made and designed.  I used to have a C&H Autochamp but it was a real challenge.

It's nice having a dedicated progressive machine set up for a caliber you like to shoot a lot.  You just sit down and roll out an ammo can full in a short amount of time and head to the range!

I had the hipoint for years and it was great.  The price is unbeatable..  ATI makes a nicer stock for it and extended 9mm mags are cheap.

The Beretta is a gr8 gun too and quality is much better but don't knock the hiPoint.  Gun Tests gave it a best buy and passed on the Beretta.

You can get an AR in 9mm too.

Huh. Interesting. The Beretta is about a $700 gun.

Highpoint in the $250 range with that stock.

I don't know much about AR's. What's a ballpark to build one in 9mm that's decent quality?

You can find the 9mm ARs on the high end of the price range for ARs.  I think the cheapest setup I've seen runs about $800.  They're more expensive because you need either a mag well adapter or a custom lower for the shorter mags, a 9mm barrel, and a 9mm bolt.  Other than those parts, they are almost 100% identical to other ARs.

You can find the lowers for 100-150 retail.

Definitely higher priced than the HiPoint, but you get a real platform.  Not that the HiPoint is a waste.  I liked mine just fine, and it never had a single problem.  Disassembly was easy.  I just didn't need a pc carbine.

Thanks : I am going to see if I can find a used dillon on Ebay, The 650 sounds like my Ponsness Warren hydraulic, it took some doing but once I got it dialed in with all the bugs out of it is a great loader.  Sometimes I think it is a game trying to get them to work as the factory should deliver them.  My wife and I used to shoot 30 thousand trap birds (clay) a year and could not have afforded it without the PW.  Anybody shoot  trap or sporting clays?
