Exactly.

I don't want to spend $0.50 a round for when I'm just playing around.

I meant that Russians have steel cheap, not brass.  Brass is more expensive in Russia.  Brass was always cheaper here in the US because we had so much copper.  Russia did not have copper in large quantities.  They DO have lots of chromium which is why all their guns had chromed barrels.

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

So I stopped at a larger gun store in NH this morning.  I was looking for Blazer aluminum 45 auto.  The clerk responds "we don't sell that stuff."

I had to ask.  "Why?"

"It's dangerous."

"Dangerous?"

"It can explode in the gun, damage the gun and hurt the shooter."

Can you possibly imagine an American Ammunition company like CCI selling a product for 30 years or so that blew up guns in this litigious country.  Goofball [bang]

I actually had a Glock 20 let loose on me.  The gun actually stayed in battery and the barrel and slide were undamaged.  It blew a perfect half moon out of the side of the case, exactly where it is unsupported.  It blew both sides of the frame out, blew out the trigger, blew out the mag and pushed the bullets back into the cases for the first couple in the mag.  Sandblasted the side of my right index finger where the gasses came out between the slide and frame.  Finger was numb for a couple of days.  It was a hotter load that ran fine in my 1911's.  It is real illuminating if you take the barrel out of a 45 Glock (other calibers don't seem as bad) and drop a loaded round into the chamber and see how much slop is in there and compare it to a 1911 barrel (or an aftermarket Glock barrel.  I think it was a combination of a +P load, Starline Brass and the large unsupported area of the Glock 45 chamber.  The brass was factory new Starline, but research I have done on their brass after the incident makes me think it is a bit thin in the web and I won't use it for heavy loads.  YMMV

They don't sell steel case either for the same reason.  Is there any legitimacy to the clerks claim that aluminum case ammo can explode when fired?  Can the lead get lodged/wedged due to the weak casing and cause the lead not to go out the barrel rather have the pressure destroy the chamber?

Was it a .45acp Glock or a 10mm? A Glock 20 is a 10mm, the G2 is a .45acp and Colt made (do they still?) a 10mm Delta Elite 1911. I have one but haven't shot it (or my G20) in a long time.

.40S&W kind of killed off the 10mm even though it was a good, hot load. The FBI even used 10mm S&W 1076 autos for a while. They were big, heavy stainless autos with an interesting SIG Sauer decocker lever on the left side.

it was a Glock 21 45 ACP.  I bought a Glock 20, 10mm and have actually put the barrel and slide from the blown up 45 on the 10mm frame (the 20 and 21 use the same frame) and it works fine.

I shoot standard pressure 10mm in the stock Glock 20 and I have a 6" KKJ barrel and a heavy recoil spring system that I use for full pressure 10.  The aftermarket barrels are nice as they have better case support and they have conventional rifling so cast bullets are not the problem they supposedly are in the stock Glock polygon bore.

I have only run stock barrels but I have heard that about aftermarket barrels like Lone Wolf, Bar-Sto, etc.

I always thought it was cruel of Glock to tempt me all those years ago about the "soon to be released" offering of the .45acp G21 only to keep putting it off over and over again. And then to release the 10mm G20 first and make me wait even longer for the .45. >:( [bang] [popcorn] They wore me down and I bought the G20 but I still drove my local gun shops nuts asking about the .45 and when they'd get them in. My universe was in order when they finally hit the shelves. ;D

Wiping away the tears this morning. Taking my class III AUG to a local high end gun store today to be put on consignment sale. They have treated me extremely well with other sales. They work the internet auction sites. The AUG is just too expensive to shoot these days and Christmas bills (along with the normal monthly stack) are looming in the distance. I've had it since 1989 but it's time to say goodbye. Also dragging along a Python and a 3rd gen Colt SAA, both NIB. Might even throw in a Nat'l Match Garand and M1A. This may be harder than selling the 916SPS but I need to get rid of stuff. If I died today my wife would freak out trying to get rid of my goodies. Can't dump that in her lap after I'm gone.

Handled some 1911s this weekend.  The Ruger feels nice.  The rest aren't all that budget friendly.

What maker would have Argentina stamped on the slide?  Saw it in the used section and couldn't see the maker stamping.

I feel for you.  I have sold some off to help with the bills too.  The thing that sucks is, you get the money, then the money is gone and so are the guns.  Just took a nice walk with my rifle this morning.  Bright sunny, clear and crisp -4F with not a breath of wind.  Slung the CZ 223 over the shoulder and walked the perimeter of my place and the neighbors.  About a 2 mile walk.  Its fun looking at all the new tracks in the snow.  Some deer and a few sets of coyote tracks.  If this real cold weather keeps up, I'm going to get some coyote calling in.  It works better with lots more snow though - they can still easily get at the mice and things with just 3-4 inches on the ground.  They won't come to a call here unless they absolutely have no choice.

Argentina had a couple 45s.  The Ballister Molina is very similar to a 1911 except it has a pivoting trigger instead of a sliding trigger.  The Argentine government also produced regular 1911's for their military - The M1916 was a copy of the M1911 and the M1927 was a copy of the M1911A1.

Interesting.  That might warrant a closer inspection out of curiosity.  It wasn't expensive, might be nice to have just because.

I love my Ruger.  It shoots great.  Very accurate!  And you can't beat the price.

Now the bad stuff.  One day at the range the front site just sheered off.  The gun was never holstered and always taken care of well.  It seems there was an issue with the manufacturing by Novak.

The other issue is that one day I took the grips off and found specs of rust.  Turns out the stainless was reacting to the wood grips.

In both cases the gun went back to Ruger and was returned to me in a week, corrected and at their expense.

The customer services is unbeatable.

I replaced the wood grips with rubber Hoeg grips.

I've been really happy with my Rugers - P94 & GP161, and I certified for CCW with my grandfather's Ruger Security Six as well.  Good to know their customer service is good as well.  No reason for me to spend more if it's a good option.   The local store had them priced at $730, SS w/ wood grips.

As I mentioned in an earlier 1911 post, the Ruger 1911s have gotten good reviews. Certainly worth a hard look. And I love a company that has a no BS warranty/service mindset. To me that has a definite cash and customer loyalty value that some others can't touch. I know my brother had a problem with one of his boy's Henry .22 rifles and Henry fixed it fast, no charge and no BS. [thumbsup] [thumbsup] [clap]

It might be a Ballester-Molina, or a Colt.
