If it's anything like Qld, they'll put the sign after the Camera.

Drive along merrily
"Hey, whats that dark coloured Van Hiding in the Bushes for..."
FLASH!
"WTF!..Oh Look a sign, Speed Camera in Operation"

"Bollocks!!"  [bang]

More of the same:

Mr Scruby would want to look where he is going when he steps out onto the road because motorists won't be >:(

I don't know about everyone one else but has anyone looked at the list of blackspot.

So many of these roads with poor accident history simple look like roads that the government and rta haven't maintained or upgraded to reflect the massive increase in usage.
How many thousand road trips r there on parramatta road? How many of these accidents happen during peak hour when the traffic is bumper to bumper. Fat lot of good a mobile sped camera will do there if the cars can only travel at 40km/hr.

The media should be all over the rta on the issue as it just shows what a piss poor job they've done ensuring that the roads and infrastructure in this state are properly built, maintained and upgraded.

I was driving down Lyons Rd, Drummoyne yesterday in a 50 Zone and spotted one. It was sandwiched between a couple of cars and when i went past it the sign was half obstructed by the front bumper. Not clear at all.

Im sure they will catch plenty in the 50 zones! I have been driving down Lyons rd for years and have never seen an accident.

We arent stupid, we all know the state government couldnt put together a decent budget to save their lives, so to fatten up the bottom line this makes perfect sense. I hear that Macquarie Bank has interests in the company responsible for these cameras. Makes perfect business sense. You are always going to make money from fines. Good profits with low overheads.......... wouldnt you??

Do they only catch the front plate? Might be a bit of relief for those who speed occasionally (not me :) ) on the bike

Free iPhone app trapster can give you the gps locations of current traps including those white vans.

Not that it's much help on a bike, but worth a look.

I think you'll find its only the "fixed" cameras that are on the GPS. The mobile units dont show! :o

So just cos the thing doesnt give a warning doesnt mean there isnt one waiting for ya!!  [leo] [roll] [evil]

Do they take photos of the back and/or front plate?

I was driving to work yesterday heading north on the F3.
The first one I was expecting to see should have been on the side of the road stationary, not driving 90km/h in a 110 zone (in the right hand lane). It wasn't until I started tailgating him that I realised that it was full of cameras and all the rubbish strapped to the roof. No one was game enough to overtake it, even though it was doing 90 in a 110. It was so funny.
I then scooted up the left and took this photo and continued along at 110.
It was like a crystal blue colour, bright orange racing stripes (like the Gulf racing colours) and had white "safety camera" signage on the side.

Funny that, I followed a marked police car through a 40 zone this week!
He realized about 3/4 of the way through then braked from 60+ to do the limit for about 150 metres!

Yep, it aint "do as I do" its the "do as I say!?" scenario.  [roll]

The authorities reckon that the Plods get booked too?! The cynic in me doubts that the infringements go through the complete process? [leo] [roll]

Happens all the time brother...  Believe it or not...  (I know you wont)

If ya can't meet the Urgent Duty Driving provisions as outlined by the Chief Commissioners Instruction 06/03 then Rule 305 (exemptions) of the Victorian Road Rules does not apply.

These provisions cover...

Responding to an incident requiring immediate police attention.

Actively involved in traffic enforcement or to intercept a vehicle  for an offence.

Participating in police driver training.

Acting in the course of an operation order.

When engaging in a pursuit.

Actual documentation of at least one of these provisions must be provided to avoid penalty.   I kid you not mate...

Do you get called to the bosses office with the jar of lube and have to do the suspension/bond rigmarole?? [leo]

Well funny story, good friend of the family is a highway patrol officer... He was told by hus superiors that if they see vehicles parked on the footpath they are to fine them...

They gave out 3 fines the other day just to these mobile speed cameras...

Something tells me the police don't like theses cameras
