tie downs, anyone?

just wondering if anyone else wanted me to grab some extra friction straps; i'm going to order a handful for myself and thought i may as well get more to save on shipping.  the first two links below are straps that were used once for crating aprilia bikes, and should be like new.  i don't know how man lbs they're rated for...see the third link for more expensive straps.

/shrug.  they look pretty frickin similar to me...but the red ones have their load weight ratings on the website.  i suppose if i (or someone else) get motivated at some point today, a call could be placed to the store to see if they're basically the same strap (which looks like the case).  but i think if they're good enough for aprilia, they're probably good enough for me.

Ancra makes the best tie downs! They are worth the $$$. I've got some that are damn near as old as I am... but they work a lot better than I ever will.

I'd get ratchet tie downs instead.  They are easier to tighten and secure.

I have a real hard time with the ratchets. Confuded the hell out of me, although I understand they may be a little more secure.

Whoa, they make something other than ratcheting tiedowns?  Those things work great; would like to see the friction type in action some time.

the straps on my ratchets are pretty much crap if they come into contact with anything, which is why i'm picking up this stuff.  one of my straps wore all the way through on the return trip, just from rubbing a little rust spot...no sharp edges or anything.

used ratchets for years too and have not had problems.  Unless you use then frequently, I always have to think about how they work.  But with the larger mechanism, it's easier for me to tighten and seems to lock more securely.  avoid rubbing on anything when I use them though. 

Has anyone seen hooks which can be secured like what mountain climbers use (don't know the name of the hook).
