I've never shot an HMR .17, but I do shoot a .270.  As with all guns, felt recoil is based on several factors.  However, the .270 is quite mild in comparison to, say, .30-06.  The beauty of guns chambers in .270Win is that it is a very flat shooting cartridge and can be used for a variety of game.  I use mine, with 150-grain bullets, for deer and elk with no problems; for Pronghorns in Eastern Oregon, you can drop down to 120-grain.  Or, say you want to surprise Mother with a guided Canadian moose hunt; he can sight in his rifle using 180-grain bullets and he's good to go.

.270 is a good round for any experience shooter.

.243 isnt bad either.

25-06 is also a nice round.  very accurate.

Just remember, you get what you pay for.

Ma, too bad you don't live closer so you could check out my M77 .243 - I personally prefer it to my brother's Remmy 700.

i believe that is a shooting range in Qatar or Bahrain or some shitehole similar.  the rifle is just an elephant gun.

Just bought my first bolt action Ruger.  Its a 77/17 in Stainless with a laminated stock.  Cant wait to take it to the range!  Love the 3 position safety!
