Slag here  [beer]

It is time to make a pilgrimage to some of the most scenic and twisty roads in the country.  I have gone out to Ouray for 3 out of the last 4 years, and I truly believe that it is the perfect destination for a DFW Ducati motorcycle vacation.  I recommend a departure date of 8/26/11 (leave in the evening)  and a return on 9/4, the day before Labor Day.  We were out there during that time period this year, and Ouray was DEAD until the friday of Labor day weekend.  The roads were empty, the campground was quiet, and there was hardly ever a wait at the restaurants.  Perfect!

The itinerary would look something like this:

Friday, Aug 26 - Leave DFW Friday evening

Saturday - Arrive in Ouray late morning.  Set up camp and check out the town

Sunday Aug 27th through Saturday Sept 3rd - Riding, sightseeing, and maybe even a jeep trip for interested parties.

Sunday Sept 4th - Leave Ouray early morning, arrive in DFW around 9pm

Costs for this trip will not be as bad as you would think.

The cabins would run $150 per person for the full 8 days.  That includes all taxes and hidden KOA fees.

Tent camping would cost $75 per person for the trip.

Fuel will be the other big expense.  I spent $200 round trip last time.  Split that up 3 ways, and we are down to $66 apiece for round trip fuel charges.

If coordinated properly, this trip could be done at a similar cost to a Hill Country trip

Reservations for Cabins would need to be done around February.  If tent camping, we could easily wait intil May.

If anyone is interested, please post up.  This would be an epic trip.

This sounds like an awesome trip and I know I'd like to go but I'll need to work out a few details between now and then so put me in with a high probability of following through  ;D

Thanks for the heads up. Sounds like a great trip. Too soon for me to confirm anything but I'll definitely keep my eye on this one.

Slag again,

We will be trailering the bikes out there.  900 miles is a bit much on a bike for me.  Guess I'm a wimp  ;D  We also will be bringing a couple off road rigs so we can hit the trails  [thumbsup]

999.  1200 miles in 36 hours through Arkansas a couple of years ago; tank bag and a back pack.  Easily do-able on the 999.

I do have a truck and trailer but after the blow-out horrors of the last Hill Country trip, I'll ride everywhere, thank you very much.

hmmmm. 1200 miles in 36 hours.... that's an average of about 35 mph, isn't it?  Was second gear broken or something?   [cheeky]
