Would you really want to trust criminals in a survival situation?    This wasn't a blue collar prison it seemed

Plus after the whole Shane 'experience' I think the group and especially Rick want to surround themselves with people they can trust their lives with.

Just got one and the Jr. Gator Machete by Gerber... actually for farm use but in case of zombie shit it would not hurt to have them in the bug out backpack! [thumbsup] ;)
