Ok, so I like the genre of post-apocalypse, which means I tend to like zombie-themed media.  Due to this, friends have recommended I watch TWD.  So I did---about 3 episodes in season 2(maybe it was 3?) I think.  It was kinda awful---wayyyy too much talking and crying and sad music.  I gave up, thinking it wasn't for me.

But this show keeps going and gaining record numbers of viewers (like, NFL-size audiences, which is crazy for a basic cable show!).  I'm now wondering if maybe the random stretch of shows I watched was just a bad stretch, and I missed the good stuff which would have hooked me.

Thoughts from the DMF TWD fan base?  Is it one of those "you just have to get through the first # episodes" or "it doesn't get good until season #" type of shows?

Having watched all the shows I have to say I agree with you with regards to the emotional stuff.  More killing and less boo hoo works great for me.  They do treat the show more like an art piece than what I personally think it should be.  All you have to do is watch the Talking Dead after show once to see that.

Past that the show still remains fun, albeit somewhat transparent.  (spoiler alert) for example who watches the show that did not know from day one that the "scientist", wasn't one?

I am finding it a bit aimless with climaxes that can take a season to build but 10 minutes to close out.  Worth watching as I think the networks took everything else worth watching in any competing time slots and moved them elsewhere.

I will keep watching but I no longer remember which night it is on (don't watching anything not on DVR).

I just wish someone would go ahead and eat Eugene.

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

The first season hooked me. By season 2 you start hating some of the characters, mostly the ones causing the drama. The past 2 seasons have had them moving about quite a bit, so keeping alive has taken precedent over crying and constantly losing your punk ass son.

Huh. So Eugene really was full of shit after all....

I realized that from the moment he shot up the first truck "on accident".  No twist or surprise there as far as I am concerned.  I was actually somewhat disappointed to find out the plot twist with Eugene was as simplistic as I thought.

I saw that coming as soon as he uttered the words "that's classified" the first time.

M620 turned M800 but then back to M620 after the M800 died at 110k, and now to Multi 1000.

Magic Mullet.

What did he call it? Tennessee Tophat?  [laugh]  [laugh]

Yeah, since he sabotaged the church bus, one can assume that maybe shooting up the truck was intentional as well.

I was so happy he got clocked. My first reaction was to shoot him and move on.

Not a surprise about Mullet Man. A bit surprising in how they revealed it IMO. Just blurting out like that?

They definitely got their money's worth out of the mullet jokes in that episode.

And Eugene definitely had a couple lines that made me laugh harder than I thought I ever would at this show.

And before this episode, I didn't know which one I had a harder time taking seriously... Dr Dipshit or Sgt Ginger.
