Our local BJ's Wholesale sells 2 1/2 lbs of Kenya AA for $14.99. When I'm too lazy to get to my local roaster, it's a good alternative.

The cone type grinders are reputed to do a much better job than the blade grinders. Less dust, and the blade grinders have a reputation for burning the grinds due to friction.

I mentioned this in your other thread, but the la cimbali grinder at work is indeed a large blade grinder, but it's sort of a hybrid burr/blade grinder. Wonderful and consistent grounds.

I like a good Indonesian dark roast.  Earthy flavors and low acidity... mmm.  Starbucks sumatran is good. Switching to whole bean from pre ground was an improvement even with a blade grinder and a coffeemate drip machine.

Back in college there was a coffee shop that French pressed all their regular coffees. Used to drink their sumatran till they switched to beans from Jakarta... that was damn good too!

If you use sweetener, try this, when I grind my beans I put raw sugar in with the grind.

It's all in the grind, Sizemore. Can't be too fine, can't be too coarse. This, my friend, is a science. I mean you're looking at the guy that believed all the commercials. You know, about the "be all you can be." I made coffee through Desert Storm. I made coffee through Panama while everyone else got to fight, got to be a Ranger.

Has anyone tried this yet?

Is it just another average bean with a fancy label? (dilution of brand for the ultimate poser)

I would just like to yell make the beast with two backs YOU at the coffee peddlers who decided that 12oz is the new standard unit in which coffee will be sold. And even bigger make the beast with two backs YOU to the idiot consumers who don't know that 12oz is NOT one pound. You are not paying $12/lb for that Charbucks bag of shit. You are paying $16/lb for it. Now go be retarded somewhere else.

It isn't just the coffee industry. Bought a "1/2 gallon" of ice cream lately?

Or a "gallon" of Glacier Bay water?  Same dimensions as Poland Spring but the bottom is hollowed out like a champagne bottle!

I like the little aluminum stovetop espresso perculators with the bakelite handles.  Some day I'll get automated.

I worked in a shop in New Orleans that was down the street from a PJ's Coffee roasting plant, and I got to smell that smell every day for a year.  At that time I also had a really shitty GMC truck that would overheat and die.  To this day I equate the smell of coffee beans roasting to my car over heating.  I have been places on my motorcycle, smelled coffee roasting and thought my bike was overheating.  [bang]

I have not had a cup of coffee in 10 years (and even that was a BS instant cappaccino from a 7-11) because I do not want to become one of those people  or should I say YOU people  :-*

Ben and Jerry's is premium ice cream though and costs more...just like Hagen Daz, or various other brands.

My point is that you can no longer by a 1/2 gallon of ice cream. Price is still the same (or more), but the volume is now less than 1/2 gallon.

As much as the smell of brewing coffee or roasted coffee beans gets the pleasure centers in my brain moister than Pavlov's mutts, the smell of roasting green coffee is pretty off-putting to me.
