Unfortunately in the current world we live in it's better to be cynical and doubt folks, their acts and what they say than not. There is more soulful profit in being a cynic than in trusting and believing all that you hear or see. Sad but true. Don't ask me how I know. :P [bang]

Like my favorite New Year's resolution: I'm going to maintain my high standards but lower my expectations of others. ;D
I plan to list the Federal Gov't. as a dependent on my next 1040 tax filing!

I have flying honey badgers and I'm not afraid to use them!

The fact that flame throwers exist is proof that someone somewhere said "I'd sure like to set those people over there on fire but I'm just not close enough to get the job done."

CONFIDENCE: the feeling you have right before you understand the situation.

call me cynical, but I doubt he is a good guy.

On the news program the hosts said it and he didn't deny it: he did it to himself. It's nobody else's fault except his own that he ended up homeless. Now he just wants a chance to turn it around.

No-one was preventing him from "turning it around".  He has had a chance.  He was begging for money on a road instead of working for minimum wage - who is supporting his 9 kids?  Like I said before, he will get a bunch of handouts, then go on a bender and flush it away.

UPDATE:

Seems that things have begun to turn around for Ted, here's to hoping he doesn't "flush it away".

If that's not a true feel good moment in life, I don't know what is.  [thumbsup] [thumbsup]

because most people believe that if you are in a bad situation its because you are a lazy, its your fault and you deserve it.

simple as that.

that is the cynical part.  sometimes true, sometimes not.

I saw this 2 days ago when it was on MSN homepage. Now the guy is everywhere. Too much too fast

To steal from the other thread:

The optimist in me hopes he makes it, but the pessimist figures hes done and headed right back to where he started.

Was a good run though  :-\

if he's really "two years clean," he'll probably be ok. i figure if he can stay sober while he's at rock bottom, then he's got his head on straight.

Apparently, his kids are grown and living in the Columbus area, which is why he's freezing his ass off along I-71 instead of panhandling in warmer climes.

I wish him the best of luck. It seems like he knows how lucky he is to get another chance. I doubt someone that appreciates that fully would bung it up.

Grappa

You would think if he had nine kids, and most or all of them are grown up, and he has been clean for 2 years, that one of his kids would be at least giving him a couch to sleep on.  You would think.  Something just doesn't seem right to me about all this.  Wish him the best, but I'm with mitt.  Money in hand, piss it away.
Ahh... but the servant waits, while the master baits.

He said that while he was down he stayed with his kids and was a nuisance so they probably got fed up with him and gave up on him.

Which at face value is a very sad thing.

By nuisance I mean like eating all of his grand children's baby food while he was in withdrawal from the drugs and liquor.
