Another car question - Audi A4 Lease Up Soon

I've got an A4 Special Edition with S-Line package, quattro, premium wheels, moon roof, manual trans, etc.  The lease is up in June and the buyout will be just over $17k.  I'm debating buying it out and trying to sell it at or near KBB, which is between 24-27k.  The car is in mint condition less than 13k miles.

(That's the exact car I have - color and wheels.)

I'm looking for advice or experience from people that have done something similar.  What are my chances of actually selling the car for KBB value?  I'll need to make a few thousand at least to make the evolution worth my time.

If you're wondering, I never drive the thing because I'm always on my K1200GT.  The Bay Area weather agrees with me. :)

in that condition you might be able to swing it.

just for kicks, see if you can negotiate a better purchase price (possible) or see if they'll compensate you for the non-use and condition (unlikely).

i'd be tempted to buy it from you.... for ~17k   ;D

KBB values are high, expect less. I find Edmunds closer to true value.  Also factor in the cost of possibly owning two cars simultaneously (insurance, plates etc) advertising and inconvenience.  If you are going to trade it for a new Audi see what the dealer will do.  From your description this car sounds like good certified pre-owned material.  Then decide.

Oh, we have a 2010 Audi Avant and love it.

Good info, thanks.  I won't have two cars concurrently since the lease is up in June and that's firmly into motorcycle season here.  I can just hold the A4 until it sells.  I'll pitch it back to the dealer to see if they're willing to work with me on an A3.  That's right - I'll be a honky with a hatchback.

Was at the Silicon Valley Auto Show today and was somewhat impressed by the Lexus CT200h:

My lease was up on my '08 BMW X-5 Jan /31/11

I had all of 5300 miles on it.  53 hundred  ! As of Dec.28.

Anyway, it had a residual of $34 K and KBB showed it to be worth.... WHOLESALE $38- $40 K.

I tried to get something for the unused miles and was given $400 towards any damage the car might have- booooooo . It had none.

I tried to get the BMW Dealer to give me more $$$$$ for it towards a new X-5  ( $61,000 ) and they wouldn't budge.

There was a program good until 12/31/10 where you could turn in your lease a month early and not pay your last month's payment plus get $2500 off the new vehicle if you leased a new car before that date .

So.....that's what I ended up doing since I procrastinated on my decision as to what I was going to do even up until the 1st of Dec. when I decided to order a new one and have it built to my specs.

Sad part of it is, when I did the paper work , I had to pay the 1st payment , which was more than my previous payments on the '08 ...and I come to find out that by giving me the $2500 , BMW raised the residual, which is no biggee since I'll probably just lease another vehicle in 36 months. So I didn't save anything , just got a new vehicle a month earlier than expected.

Somebody is going to get one hell of a nice X-5 w, only 5300 miles , like new. ( cost $54,000 new in '08 ) , still has a year of Factory warranty.

We have the same car.  It's a pretty amazing set of wheels.  But, still gonna give it up when the lease ends - prolly gonna get the Q5.

I have an almost completely unhelpful comment:

Anyone who spends that much on a car and doesn't own a Streetfighter S or an 1198 has their priorities completely out of whack.

I own several motorcycles. I have owned lots of motorcycles. And have bolted and/or modified lots of crap to said motorcycles...

If I were going that route, I'd get an S1000RR but only because I have a great BMW dealer near me.  The Ducati dealers in my area suck shit.  And based on my experiences with the 848 I owned, I also have serious problems with Ducati quality.

I could also dig a 2011 R1200R with all the trimmings.  When it comes time to buy a new Eye-talian, I may go Aprilia.

Played that game with Ducati for engine bits.  Then a radiator.  Then a gasket.  Then engine bits again.  I finally beat the guy at end.

Beautiful car. If you decide to buy it, try to negotiate with them to make it a CPO car. That way you get a warranty extension at no cost. They're more likely to do that than lower the residual cost, as they don't really want to put these cars on the market. The more of them out there, the lower the brand's resale value gets. I have a friend who's done that with a couple of beemers and a range rover, and it's what I'll try to do in 35 months when the lease is up on my 335is. It would also help with your sale should you put the car on the market.

FWIW I bought a used Audi A4 last year and if I saw one with low mileage like yours for around 22-24k, I would have jumped on it.

Ended up with an 06, 50k miles, certified pre owned for $17k.
