Movies that should NEVER be remade

With the current trend in cinema going towards re-making just about every and any movie in the catalog, I got to thinking about some movies that I would hate to see done over.

Here are some of mine in no particular order:

  - the Princess Bride
  - Christmas Story
  - the Godfather trilogy
  - Bullitt (I won't be surprised if it happens)
  - any Kubrick film (too late for the Shining)


What are some of your picks?

There were rumors going around about 3-4 years ago that it was being considered for a remake w/ Brad Pitt.

Seriously the only movies that should ever be remade are low-budget movies remade by the same director with more money (Il Mariachi, Evil Dead)

Art should stand on it's own and doesn't need a mulligan to get it "right"

Otherwise it's like saying "Yeah, someone should do a re-write of Moby Dick." Or "I really like Rembrandt's 'The Potato Eaters' but I think it needs more color."

Disclaimer: This doesn't apply to anything that's done as part of a live performance (music, plays, opera) because that's supposed to be different every time.
