ive been riding for about 2 years now. im 26 and not that much of a hot head. ive been looking into the 695. its got decent numbers and it looks amazing. ive got people telling me that i shouldnt get a duc. most say its because of the maintenance costs. i was just wondering how many miles the 695 can get on the motor. ive got about 100,000 on my 81 kz750e2. and im looking for another bike that might last just as long.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

(also. i see a lot of people with open clutch covers. doesn't that let dirt and water in?)

There are plenty of folks w/ monsters that have well over 50k.

I remember seeing one person with over 130k on the old board

btw the 695 has a wet clutch [thumbsup]

Probably better. Modern technology & all that. Lot of improvements in bikes over the last 27 years [thumbsup]

My 695 has about 13k miles on it after a little over a year, working great. [thumbsup]

Kripes!  ...and I thought I was doing well with almost 5K in one year  -_-

Plus newer Ducatis have a 7500 mile service interval. [thumbsup]

Over all, service costs on Ducatis are not that much higher than other bikes.

You'll find ignorant people everywhere.

Modern Ducati's have 7k service intervals.
A motorcycle, irrespective of the brand, is like any other mechanical device, if you take care of it will last a long time.

Forgot to mention that I also flew about 130K miles in the same time frame, if I had been home the whole year how many miles would I have now? ;) [moto]

Just for reference, here is a price list for service at my usual shop: http://www.nicholsmfg.com/service.html
The 695 would get the M620 service.

This is probably the cheapest in the SF Bay Area (in general things are more expensive in this area than many places in the US).

Yap. Extended service interval is a critical point.

So true... It seems like people find a reason to bash any product, no matter what it is, when they're reviewing it...  :-\

-I say go for it... I ride an S4 which is an older model (916cc), and people tried to steer me away from it because they're "notorious for having bad problems" and I've had nothing but good luck... I am dying to test a 695 though.. They look like a blast to ride!!

-As far as the maintenance, it's like anything... Treat it well, and it will treat you well!!  [thumbsup] Plus, sinking money into Ducati motorcycles may seem like something that you'd try to avoid, but trust me... You'll catch the addiction just like the rest of us!!  ;D
2001 MS4; Full Termi w/airbox, ECU, SPS cams, CycleCat ClipOn Adapters, Apex clip-ons, CRG's, MW open clutch, Sargent Saddle, CF aplenty.. NOT RIDEABLE FOR A LONG TIME DUE TO MY STUPID LACK OF JUDGEMENT!!

Everyone's forgotten to mention the most expensive part of owning a Monster.  The mods!   [thumbsup]
