Camper Trailers or Rv'rs

So....anyone here have them?  I'm sold on the idea of owning one since I am spending two weeks camping out at Naval Station Sigsbee in Key West.  All the retired salty dogs have hooked up rv's that cost more than all the homes in my cul'de'sac.

I love the idea of owning a smaller camper trailer since I have three dogs that need a/c (the bulldog mainly).  Plus, it's so cheap to camp out compared to hotels.   Also, I can take in the scenery which is lost when you fly from place to place, that and you can bring all your favorite toys with you (lbikes, surfboards, and moto).

Anyways, I was hoping some dmf'r would chime in and share their experiences since the thought of traveling the U.S. with your family and a trusty moto on the truck bed sounds like an attainable dream.

I don't have one, but I have toyed with the idea too.  I would pull it to my folks and my wifes folks and stay in it instead of the guest rooms  ;D

I thought an old airstream would be fun to first take a year and restore it, then use it.

About the goat...
His name was Bob, but the family called him BeelzeBob.

Oooh, that's a beauty!  I am toying with the idea of a trailer since I can haul a moto/scooter with the truck bed.  However, a class C/B would be cool since it feels more like the millennium falcon!   [laugh]

I've been looking at teardrop trailer designs........would be great to have a quiet place to sleep when I go to hunt camp........

It's all in the grind, Sizemore. Can't be too fine, can't be too coarse. This, my friend, is a science. I mean you're looking at the guy that believed all the commercials. You know, about the "be all you can be." I made coffee through Desert Storm. I made coffee through Panama while everyone else got to fight, got to be a Ranger.

A bunch of us are looking for a cheep class a one or large c. We almost had a 33 footer for $1500 but pulled the trigger a few hours too late. Were going to use it to get to track days. We are going to see if its possible to take the master bedroom out and put bikes in it and make a ghetto toy hauler.

I think the RV is the way to go. If your in key west you don't need to be driving around in a big pickup all day, a scooter or you bike would be fine.

My rig for camping/track days...  So ghetto, but sooo easy!  8)

This is just the rain fly set up over the frame.  If I need a little more protection or privacy, the tent itself drops right into the bed.  I can even close the tailgate with it in there.   [thumbsup]

I find it disturbing that you're imagining me in a sauna, never mind the teletubbie aspect of it

That's about as cool as a bed in a panel van!  I could always buy a econo van and hook up an a/c unit and bed.  Instant ghetto rv!!!

RV and tow a....Jeep.      [thumbsup]

The family has had both but didn't have a preference from one or the other.  As long as there's another vehicle to get around wherever you end up camping/staying.

The only downside was a serious rollover (all are fine) with the 5th wheel because the trailer (20' +/-) did it's swaying thing on a highway once.  Never had that w/the RV towing a small car or horse trailer.

Sounds like fun!  Enjoy!

That's what I like to hear!

I grew up in a travel trailer family.  We had a Suburban and a 25' camper.  Worked great for just about EVERYTHING.

My preference is a popup trailer, especially as long as it's just the wife and me.

I do like that Avion herm posted (long time fan of the "tin can" campers), but my little Dakota might have issues pulling that.
