Apparently not as awesome as you might imagine.....

Of course they didn't like it, it was RHD.   [cheeky]

Seriously though, to those who have driven Wranglers and know their limitations, 90% of that article's gripes are moot.  Give me a diesel and a manual transmission and BOOM!
And the sugar fountain fairy swore so hard when she came to super-size that stale hope soybean; liiiike a homeless German woman. Who is this super-sizing spirit-crushing femme? And tell her I'll break a tree root up in her shrimp.

Being faster than you thought possible…it feels good. No, screw thatâ€"it feels like shotgunning a gallon of adrenaline and chasing it with an all-night orgy aboard a burning Viking boat.

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

I've been toying with the idea lately of buying a really really late model jeep/taco and turning it into a dune runner/fishing truck.....There is a beach in Mass that lets you drive on the beach at the end of the season( just in the time for when the fish start migrating back south). Short wheel base, 4x4, stick some good tires for sand on it. A place for a cooler and rods, some big lights, maybe a rack for my kayak................I'm getting ahead of myself.....hehe....

Totally. They're not for everyone...

My '13 is my fourth, and I have to laugh at a lot of the reviews I've read on them.

Sounds like we are too stupid for small trucks (not just diesel).  All the US mfgr's are dropping their small trucks.

The colorado is coming back next year, it might actually give the tacoma a run for its money......though these are really midsize trucks not "small trucks" by any sense of the word.

I read an article on that (which my no means makes me an expert, but here goes anyways).  Seems how the EPA classifies vehicles leaves manufacturers out in the cold when it comes to meeting emissions for both station wagons and small pick-up trucks.  Something about the area on the road surface that the vehicle takes up...

CAFE!! You are correct, they do it by vehicle foot print. This lead to the creation of the PT cruiser, its classified as a small pick up i think haha. So they could count the PT for their Truck/SUV MPG target.

Yeah well my last little pickup got like, 17-19 mpg-regular cab, manual,. haul maybe 500 lbs and stay happy, 800 it would whine and I don't think I put more in there than that.

Current ginormous extended cab long bed diesel beast gets about 15/16 and is infinitely more useable. If you NEED a truck I don't see the point of a small one. Only real advantage is parking.
If the state had not cut funding for the mental institutions, this project could never have happened.

The current generation double-cab long bed Toyota HiLux with 2.5L diesel in the UK gets almost 39 MPG combined.  The 3.0 version gets 36 mpg combined.

The 2.5L version gets 140 hp / 343 ft lbs torque and 0-60 in 12 seconds.  It's exactly what we need in the US for a small truck.  If Toyota sold this version, Ford would go bankrupt when their F150 sales tanks.

It's not a true "small truck", but it's smaller than the American-spec Toyota Tacoma.

Then they came for me--and there was no one left to speak for me.

Yup  ;D ;D ;D

We got more diesel "small trucks" ("ute" is the proper name) than you can poke a stick at  8) 8) 8)

Not just us though.  Most lands on Earth have mid-sized fuel efficient diesel utes available from most manufacturers.  My theory is that its because we in the rest of the world have to pay money for the fuel, whereas in the US since it's virtually given away free there's no great incentive to be frugal with it [evil].

I remember the terrible things we did to a diesel Hilux when I was in Australia.  Those are tough little trucks.

Yep.

And the bullshit nonsense collectively known as the EPA.
