Snickers for short rides. Which ones seem to protect the most?

Guys.. I am looking to buy snickers to go on short rides or when I need to get somewhere on my bike and don't want to look like a power ranger... any recommendations for light weight shoes/snickers that may protect a little bit more than the short snicker?
I own the Scorpion air by Sidi.. light and comfy.. but event this looks silly in a social situation... or at the office.
appreciate any recommendations [thumbsup]

Hmmm, I would guess these, but they dont offer much protection:

J/K J/K I couldn't resist...

Your best bet is probably the low cut boots by puma, They look like normal shoes, but they provide a lot more protection than regular sneakers. You can put jeans over them and you'll never tell that you have boots on...

 ;D .. funny!

The thing is... is it justifiable to spend 175 + for short boots like the puma or the Sidis when, in my opinion, they don't seem to protect that much more than, let's say a pair of Nike Air high! My sidis have a plastic hell protector and a small plastic circle under the leather to protect the ankle bone.. but that's it!

I know firsthand of a guy who bunged up a wheelie and had the bike land on his foot when he was wearing the pumas. Sore ankles was all he got. pretty strong endorsement there...

These pair of Puma's are good looking!

I'll stick I piece of plastic on a nike high on the side.. and another on the heel and I'll have my moded pair of Nike shoes!!

My wife got a pair of those short Pumas for about $70, delivered, on eBay. She loves 'em.

Try Thor 50/50 boots, if worn with jeans hardly noticeable, cheaper than pumas I suspect [thumbsup]

I suggest Dainese Lima's... (two color or all black versions are available)

Price out the cost of 4 hours of orthopedic surgery, including pins and plates, 6 months of physical therapy and a year or so off a bike and suddenly they don't seem so expensive. YMMV ;)

i swore to never ride without proper riding boots, therefore if need be, i ride with some vans slipons in my backpack.

my boots have saved my feet from injury too many times for me to ever consider riding without. who cares what your feet look like anyway.

Cucciolo

I do.. I don't like the power ranger look if I am not on a bike..
